Aluminum Bolts
Hi Folks

Quick question for people more knowledgeable then me, Aluminum bolts.... would these be strong enough to use on my door hinges from and rear ?

Unlikely. Then you have all the problems with galling (cold welding) and corrosion. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Ah no worries, I'll go stainless, reason I was asking I see Pro Bolt have anodized black and the price is considerably different between stainless and alu

Remember Duralac is your friend when mixing dissimilar materials such as stainless steel, mild steel and aluminium.

To put things in perspective, grade A2-70 bolts have a tensile strength of 700MPa.
Aircraft grade aluminium, such as 6061 is just over 300MPa.
Grade 8.8 is at 830MPa

The higher the number in MPa, the stronger is the metal.

I would not trust aluminum bolts. Perhaps ok just opening and closing the door, would not fall off but in case of an accident? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Yes, definitely need stainless strength upwards.
I used corrosion block on all of mine.
Titanium isn’t readily available, I purely mentioned it because it is stronger than Stainless but stainless is perfectly okay.

Just not aluminium as that’s the weakest tensile strength. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️
