I don’t know what I would advise but certainly not wd40 as can make some plastic items swell. If a lock then graphite lub is recommended.

I use is ABUS PS88 Lubricating Spray, it’s a 50ml spay with a small tube to direct into the lock, after a small squirt, open and close using the key, until smooth, and then follow up with a second squirt.
Just another thing to do before winter frosts happen. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic81855.html Zaid-M www.DefencePhotos.com 2014 Defender 110 Utility, 2.2 Puma, Indus Silver Not just transport more like a religion |

Can't say I ever had that issue with mine over the 2 years whilst in wet central Scotland.
Never lubricated either, but maybe my frequent visits to fuel stations kept it in working order ![]() ![]() Cummins 130 Build Thread 58 130 Double Cab HCPU - Cairns Blue 04 110 Double Cab - Black (gone) 07 Audi RS4 Avant - Silver |

A while back my standard LR fuel cap competely corroded, tried to open it and the lock had all but rusted away inside. After a faff getting it off I replaced with a geuine one. Ever since just to be sure I have pushed a small amount of ACF50 into the lock every couple of months to hopefuly keep the lock free from rust.
Key always seems to go in well. |

I haven’t had any issues with my Optimill or old genuine cap. I’d personally just put a drop of ACF50 in and work the key in the lock a few times. Repeat now and again. Charlie

I never lock mine so wouldn’t know 😬
I’d rather they siphoned the diesel out than drill a hole in the tank. 😂 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html Instagram - @r22oyp Roy |
