trying to fit new rear speakers on my 2014 110
Embarrassed to ask, but being ham fisted I need to.

How do I remove the rear panels to fit the speaks?

take the handful of fixings out (unscrew the centre part and then lever out the remaining collar/plug), and then remove the panel.

From memory it's a bit of a tight fit, and you have to pull the panel out from the bottom. it'll bend about a bit on the way out, but doesn't get damaged.

Refitting is the reverse, and you have to put the top in first as it lips under the panel above.

I pulled the top panel around the rear corner windows first then there are 3 clips that using a trim removal tool they popped out then panel can be removed to allow you to clean behind and fit new speakers. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details

They are awkward, it could be the carpet if you have removed all the fittings (from memory one fitting is hidden by carpet)

You can just about see where the fittings are on this picture showing my set up.

Slightly off topic, but Stacey007, what was the reason for surface mounting the crossovers?
Was there not enough space behind, or did you want them on display?

I'm looking to upgrade mine soon, and trying to plan ahead where I'll put everything.

As for the tweeters I thought they look too good to hide, although to be fair they are pretty hidden when in...

The front focal ES100K ELITE K2 tweeter box's are velcroed to the inside of the speaker openings behind the dash.

Thumbs Up
