Maxxis Trepador M-8060 security
Now that my Defender has gone all ‘Big Foot’ I’m needing to up the security a bit.
The wheels are the Maxxis Trepadors in 35/12.50/16 M-8060 and they ain’t cheap to replace (£354.00 each from what I can see).
LRD Security sell a spare wheel security cover but it says it’s only for LR alloys and clearly these are a tad bigger.
Any ideas/suggestions?

I have simply put a locking wheel nut on mine - as per the main roadwheels

Someone on ebay used to make a spare wheel lock for alloy wheels.

I bought one then modified the mount on the standard wheel carrier then notched a circler ally plate i had kicking around, neoprene backed so not to scratch the wheel.

Not sure if it is still available.

I run similar wheels and turned an ally spindle and bolted it to the wheel carrier. The photo shows the plate for boost alloys but it now has a bigger one set further in for the Mach 5 alikes on mine.

I can swap wheels at any time and the spindle caters for both

Getting one turned at an engineering shop wouldn’t be too expensive

Thanks for the tips so far guys, the vehicle itself has a fair few security additions but the wheels now are a big target for thieves-especially the spare one.

In addition to a lock/padlock holding the wheel to the wheel carrier, might a plain un-decorated wheel and tyre cover help. Since it would provide some visual protection, if they can't see it, they can't want it. I know some will say the determined thief will not care, but taking your precious spare wheel & tyre off display may prevent the opitunist? Zaid-M

I think they may know what’s under the cover by looking at any of the other 4 wheels

How do you find them on the road? I’d suggest a cable lock as well, but be careful it doesn’t cause abrasion that’s the issue so needs padding or something similar. No Guts, No Glory.

Too early to tell as I’ve only driven it fully loaded with all the kit they took off (a lot). Felt heavier and a lot more tyre and wind noise. It certainly puts a smile on your face that’s for certain!

Can anyone recommend some good reliable sturdy locking wheel nuts please?
I know its not a rock solid solution but hopefully enough to deter. I had to buy aftermarket nuts for my old M3 after all my wheels were nicked one night-they used OEM locking wheel nuts (my locking nut was still in the car) and ledft it on wooden blocks. Had the slowest M3 in the UK that day
