Any type of mass extraction has an environmental impact, the drivers of mass extraction need to be addressed first, mainly mass consumer consumption. Wanting the latest XX, a new YY or a newer ZZ, has a far more global environmental impact than an EV vs. ICE debate. Jumped ship to reliability - Mitsubishi L200

High battery drain when using heating/ cooling might be because Rivian don’t fit a heat pump to scavenge heat from the battery - Tesla has only just started fitting them to M3 but My has always had them. They are a £1000 option on VW iD’s but standard equipment on BMW Mini Electric that has a tiny 32.6kWhr battery and needs all the battery it can just to have a decent range. Fitting one significantly reduces electrical load from powering the heating / cooling. Maybe it's in the terminology, they do have a patent for this:
https://patents.google.com/patent/US20180086224A1/en "The present inventor has observed a need for an enhanced thermal management system for electric vehicles that may mitigate degradation of the vehicle range due to extremes of environmental conditions. Exemplary approaches described herein may address such needs." |

Or will owners have to glue themselves to the M25 - "Insulate Rivian"
Interesting to see the impact of towing a diddy caravan on Top Gear last night, let alone 4/5/6/7 people onboard loaded up with holiday gear. Jumped ship to reliability - Mitsubishi L200 Puma 90 XS - Sold D3 - 2.7 S x2 (both Sold) Freelander 2 HSE - Sold Freelander 1 - Sold Disco 2 - Sold |

Three-quarters through the 1st Doug video, it's certainly a deep dive into all the details of the vehicle and worth watching, if in bite sized chunks.

Not seen the episode, but the weight internally to the vehicle is generally much less of an issue, compared to the increased aero and wheel drag, on top of the weight, of towing a trailer. |

Competition for the European plant:
"In the Netherlands, contract manufacturer VDL is offering to produce Rivian vehicles at its Nedcar plant in Born where it currently builds Minis for BMW, according to Dutch press reports. VDL executives have visited Rivian to lay out terms and have also offered to sell the plant to Rivian, reports said.4 hours ago. " https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/uk-...rope-plant |

TFL take their loaner R1T off-road in the snow with a conventional Toyota Pickup
And it’s charging curve And off-road load lugging If you look closely at the dash in the charging video you can see it’s consumption - 1.85m/kWh isn’t very efficient……… Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. It’s a 4 ton pick up truck running on all terrains not a Tesla optimized for its drag coefficient and on low friction tyres so not sure what you expect? If you divide it’s max range of 300m by the useable 135KW stated it’s only 2.2 m/kw, so getting 1.85 in winter still gives a range of 250 miles. Pretty good for an EV pick up on test.
