Mine's seriously dropped off now - down nearly £4k since last week - bubble burst, they must know I've got it back! Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Yes - I sold mine last week

Was going to go to WBAC at £70731

A local dealer emailed me - trying to sell me a car - I told him I was looking to sell one

After some exchange of details - he offered me £71,000 (no sale fees or chipping)

Dropped car off and got paid yestserday.

Bought car at £67,084 - Including accessories and discount.

Added a set of steps (£650 in a sale) + some clips.

So all up - say cost me £67,750

So £3250 Profit...

Dealer now has it listed for just under £84,000.....

My WBAC value has just jumped to £65,685. That’s nearly 5k more than last week.

Not bad for for a P300 SE purchased on in July 2020. About 10k more than I paid for it.

Genuinely not being funny and I've tried to ask this previously but you have £3250 profit and now what?
If you originally bought with the intention of selling for a profit then fair enough nice one but what if you really wanted a new defender? You've now got to wait maybe 12-18 months and drive around in whatever you have now (most likely not the new Defender you wanted) or put the profit into a "banger". Chances are when you do get another it'll cost more than the profit.
Like I said not being funny I'm genuinely interested in the thought process of folk doing this.

Thanks in advance....

I’m currently on a PCP deal and looking to upgrade to a P400E. These aren’t available at the moment as we all know but my dealer is offering to maintain my current equity until such time they do. They have valued my car at £62k due to the current market. I think that this is a great position to be In as I can keep my current car until a Hybrid comes available but also benefit from the current high 2nd hand values.

And a tale from the dark side:

"a Warning about JLR's Dodgy NDA.

The sun is setting on my ownership of Finn, the P400. This is not because of innate issues with the defender (though there are some), but because of JLR's response to my raising those issues and in the manner which they attempted to resolve the matter. In this video I talk about the potential buy-back contract offered by JLR for Finn. This has been a difficult video to make and I am still not sure I managed to capture all the ways in which I feel let down by JLR.

In short, JLR can't (or won't) fix the issues with Finn, and deny that many of the issues exist at all. In response to continued pressure, they offered a pernicious and insulting offer for Finn given the amount of issues I have had and the costs incurred in trying (but failing) to resolve them. The contract demands that I desist in communicating the problems with Finn -- and prohibits me from engaging in any negative discussion of my experiences with JLR (or their vehicles) -- now, or forever. In addition, it seems there is underhandedness from JLR regarding their 'trade-in' figures offered from Albertan Dealerships, who offered $14,000 less for Finn than dealerships in British Columbia (that's nearly 20% less).

Needless to say, I haven't signed the contract. However, this has cost me another $4,500 bringing my losses on the new defender to $55,000 in 12 months and 3 days."

Sold my D300 X-Dynamic also. Wasn’t out to make a profit but did get pretty much all what I paid back at 4000 miles. The dealer practically ripped my hand off to get it.

I had a love hate relationship with it but in the end just didn’t get on with it. I found the seats really uncomfortable to the point where it was giving me back pain every time I drove it. (My problem rather than the car from an old injury). I wasn’t sorry to see it go.

I’ve happily gone back to my old 110 that I’ve had for about 9 years that thankfully I hadn’t sold. It’s now my daily driver again and oddly I am pain free! Thinking about bringing it slightly more up to date with a BMW M57 engine conversion with an 8 speed auto box. It’s definitely a keeper then.

So you've walked away with £3k (not to be sniffed at, but not exactly a huge amount of cash) and now have no car?

The joy of the Defender is worth more than £3k to me.

Why did you bother buying the Defender if £3k was enough to persuade you to part with it?

At the end of the day a car is just a piece of machinery. In May I sold my Defender 90 300Tdi for a very nice 4 figure profit on what it had originally cost and the work I had done to it. I then saw a TD5 90 for a good price. I spent a month or so bringing it up to spec and was surprised as to how much it was now worth. Guess what? I sold the TD5 too. Last Sunday I bought a really nice 300Tdi 90 which I intend to keep BUT if someone offers me a few £ thousand more than I paid then I will sell it.

This is probably the only occasion I can remember when cars have attracted such premium prices. There is no dip in the climbing prices or the demand from folk happy to pay the high prices at present. However next year will be a whole new ball game with not only the UK but the world sinking into recession.

My advice - Make hay while the sun shines…….

Jim

So, mine has gone.

21 plated First Edition D240 which I bought for £55K and sold on via wizzle.co.uk for £68K - higher price than WBAC and no haggling - dealers bid directly on the car and you can decide if, when and how to sell it.

Sorry to see it go, but I had been considering swapping it for a Discovery anyway (due to boot size) before the prices went up so this wasn't purely motivated by financial gain.

I have some bits and pieces (roof bars, titancovers boot liner and other stuff) which I'll put on the forum.
