Great, just the information I needed and looking at the connectors I can see the difference now. I'm assuming using heat shrink makes the job tidier and potentially improved it waterproofing

Yes, heatshrink boots are the top tier for creating a sealed harness, you can use Raychem Atum with a 3:1 shrink ratio that will be large enough to fit over the connector but shrink small enough to seal onto the cable bundle. Much cheaper than boots also! 1989 90 4.3 V8
