I’ve tried but once the rod is inside the grommet the grommet expands making it way too big to fit thru the bracket.

At first put some grease or soap to the bush, then bush into the hole, then bonnet rod into the bush hole. It'll take you for a thirty seconds.

I have tried this. It’s not the grease thats the issue. It’s the opening of the prop rod hook. It won’t clear over the bracket.

Manipulate it up, so the horizontal long piece starts going though and follow it all the way.
You might need to move it in all sorts of directions to get it through and then back to the position you want it. Don’t start with the bent piece start with the long section and work it around and through. You could always warm it as well (only a little) open the gap a little and bring it through. Closing it could be tricky though and I wouldn’t advise this unless you have no other choice. You should be able to manipulate it to fit properly as it is. KEEP CALM AND Drill ON 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

You need to fit the rod end, that is in your photo. You need grease to easy fitting the bush into the hole. Try please, it's really easy.

Looks like one of the aftermarket Puma bonnet upgrade (if can be called an upgrade) kits, like what Masai have on their site. I have removed props from Td5s which is very similar, although unlike the Puma version, the Td5 prop cannot pass the long side first as there is an increase in diameter as LandRover used to weld in a tube in the long straight section. I cannot remember having any issues. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

You need to fit lower end of the bonnet rod into the bush, not the upper end.

Yes this bonnet prop kit is from Masai. Maybe that is the issue.
