Saturday was a trip to Gale Rigg, near Pickering for recovery duties on the Trackrod rally.
Also had entries from the Armed forces rally team and a new Defender Bowler 90. A dry and dusty day in the forests. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Fitted my door cards after spraying them black with vinyl paint, interior looks a 1000 times better.
Put all new door card fitting trim pieces in the door also, the rubber fixings, the pop off screws, luckily 90% of the plastic heads that the little black plastic screws fit over were not broken |

A satisfying weekend of Defender upgrades ;
Secured the gearbox tunnel back to the floor pans, floor all nice and sealed now ready for the new exmoor trim carpet. New seats popped in.. Click image to enlarge New rear reverse light fitted and connected. Definite improvement! Click image to enlarge New LED headlights fitted also luckily my car already had the sidelight and indicator on spade connectors . No pics unfortunately. Also decided to spray up the chequer plate on the side steps, thought Id give it a go as looking at swapping them out anyway so if went t*ts up no problem, but they have come up a treat! Sorry no before pics but you know what silver chequer plate looks like, here's the results; Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I used a hammerite style spray paint which had an adjustable nozzle so got really coverage, probably needs another coat with a wet sand. I gave a the chequer plate a good sand before hand. Going to look at touching up the rear cross member with this also and doing the rest of the chequer plate. I wish all defender jobs went as easy!!! |

Monday managed to grab some time for a few jobs.
Checked oil/water/screen wash Greased prop shaft joints Replaced the water-in-fuel-filter sensor. Had to cut and solder fresh wires back in. But still dont get the water-in-fuel-filter dash warning light on. I did notice that the sensor I replaced was not the same as the original. The original was like two little prongs, the new on was what looks like a brass screw. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Changed gearbox oil
Fitted a headlamp upgrade loom. I have gone from 10.2v at the bulb to 13.xv at the bulb when in operation. Took the feed direct from the alternator and mounted the relays just behind the power steering reservoir. A quick check the lights do look a lot brighter. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Fitted the bespoke seat covers to the rear seats to replace the lidl special that was there but as it’s winter time thought better try to protect them from the dog better. I also have the front and third row to fit but that will be another day. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.
5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

Click image to enlarge Just done my good deed today, had to tow local plod out of a field, after he got bogged down in mud up to rear axel level. Actually a mate of mine, so called me first, hoping all the other local plods wouldn’t here about it. Not much chance of that, already 2 other cars and 4 plods at the scene by the time I got there, he knows he’s in for some serious ribbing from his mates when he clocks off, 🤣, Ashby Andy |
