do you think a jeep tailgate table would fit on that wider door? Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

After keeping us waiting for quite a while, they´ve certainly surprised us with that interior.
I love the aircraft style switchgear, and the sheer audacity to go against the flow with such an analogue statement. Well done! Looks like a fun place to be. Seats by Recaro, and labelled as such is also a master move. It really does look like a solid and rugged self confident statement. A good direction in these troubled and confused times. Alot to like and commend. It makes the whole vehicle suddenly become more attractive. Not all great, though! I have to agree with Gren, that the middle air vents do look a bit 1980´s British Leyland, and the steering wheel looks totally out of place, echoing the same unfortunate aesthetics that the front end and the curiously random airline strips create. An aquired taste, but it wouldn´t stop me buying one. 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MT´s, Recaro CS´s, anorak, wellingtons |

I think the Ineos Grenadier looks great and has an interior design that distinguishes it from so many other vehicles. I'm happy with my choice of the new Defender, but I would definitely consider trading it in for one of these, depending on how it performs once it's launched. I love the cockpit type interior. And I suspect a lot of the features that JLR make you pay for will be standard on this thing. I'm looking forward to the reviews.

Interesting screen the torque settings and 7 bar that's too high for tire pressure

That’s an interesting readout. I can’t think what the pressure reading would be, as you say it’s way too high for tyre pressure.
Also, given (we think) it has conventional mechanical locking diffs, what are those torque readings telling us? If the diff are open (unlocked) then torque is always equal across the diff. So it must be somehow measuring torque across the locked diffs, and all three must be locked, not sure how that’s possible to measure and what use it would be to the driver anyway. The alternative is there is some sort of fancy torque vectoring system, with variable locking diffs like the new Def… 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

Interesting that this picture shows 3 differentials, but no locked symbol on any.
Then different torque values at each wheel. Could it have a torque vectoring system AND also manually selectable locking differentials? Edit, I should have read your whole post, before saying the same! Click image to enlarge |

Modular, analogue, militant brutalism, and yet modern. This is everything the new Defender should’ve been. I love it. It’s really too bad this isn’t coming out as an EV.
I’m sorry but that is starting to be a deal-breaker for me. The thought of going back to noise, rough performance, maintenance, oils, gears and separate trips to petrol stations would be a really tough pill to swallow after driving an EV for a few months. Given Ineos’s main business I guess that transition is unlikely to ever happen, but if this was an EV I would be queuing up for it. |

I'm a big fan of the vehicle but the one thing that lets it down for me is the dash and centre/roof console arrangement, there are just too many buttons and switches for my liking Cheers Ian

Probably will be tyre pressure on the finished vehicle, I assume the screen will just be in some sort of demo mode and not properly calibrated? 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue |

Overall this is a design made by someone who really understood the Defender. No need to use terms like ‘verticality’. Fantastic job.

It's difficult to remember what's been said by Ineos directly vs 2nd hand journalist reports, where it's clear they have got other info wrong, and they then use language loosely to describe things like the diffs. In recent recent press reports, Ive seen the front and rear diffs labelled as "electronic" although what this actually describes is never revealed. The centre diff appears to be a simple manually actuated mechanical linkage from the cabin reveal but also from other earlier official photos of rolling chassis and gearbox. Click image to enlarge "The video also shows a gear-driven transfer case, with ‘TREMEC’ cast into the housing. Job Zwollo, Engineering Project Manager at Ineos Automotive says this transfer case is a clean-sheet design for the Grenadier. This transfer case will have a lockable centre differential for permanent all-wheel drive, low-range gearing, and will be manually (lever) operated. https://www.caradvice.com.au/874821/ineos-...-possible/ |

Assume they’ll be old-school lockers with something like solenoid operation - given that, I’m surprised the centre diff appears to be open unless manually locked - gives the traction control something to do, I suppose.

I'm impressed with the interior, but not 100%:
Pros + seats + switchgear + modular panels for switchgear with visible bolts + sunroof(s) - hopefully with an integral blind Cons - gearstick shape - tiny buttons around the iDrive knob - fugly steering wheel, and the plastic version is even worse - touchscreen - vents Don't Knows ? I've not spotted any USB sockets yet ? Can the cubby box be refrigerated I suspect that the list price of this will set the limit for the (old) Defender's market value. I've never previously wanted any new car, but this is ticking boxes for me although I'd probably wait until after it has had its first revision cycle. |
