Well I’ve not had a problem yet. I like the fact that you don’t have to depress the button to change gear unless coming out of park, useful for manoeuvring. Like all automatic cars it would still be better with a manual gearbox.

Having used the BMW shifter in my 430d for the last 5 years I can vouch for its simplicity and effectiveness.

It's a shifter after all, you only look at it to put it into gear, then thats it.

Have not used the LR one so can't comment on that.

I'd rather have an odd-shaped shifter which works reliably and prevents me reversing smartly into the car behind than one that looks spot-on but is either unreliable or has poor usability.

I haven't driving a vehicle with the BMW shifter but I can well imagine that its peculiar shape actually fits the hand rather well, and in the Grenadier it certainly would be difficult to fail to realise which of the two shifters your hand is resting on.
