The main thing I would find wrong with both the Pretender and the Grenadier is that you can't remove the top which I have done with my Defender.

Interesting to read that SOTA could be opened up to 3rd parties:
"When previously speaking about the process of tuning the 2021 Bronco, Ford’s head of Icons, Dave Pericak, said Ford has a SEMA agreement that will authorize third-party companies to make engine changes. “There’s a SEMA agreement where we authorize third parties to make engine calibrations and updates,” he revealed. “I think this is definitely an opportunity to explore as we go forward. We’ve got the OTA architecture in place for the Bronco, but how that works with third-party developers vs doing it in house and internal updates is still something to see how it will work.” https://www.carscoops.com/2020/08/ford-wor...21-bronco/ |

I like the fact that with the Bronco they will allow the downloading of third party maps.
In the US that will mean for the overlanding market they will be able to download Gaia maps. When i was in the new Defender last weekend and the wife was driving, the shelf in front of the passenger was perfect for supporting a tablet or mobile phone with the Memory Map App open. it was then i thought JLR missed a trick as MM is a fantastic tool in the UK and some parts of Europe. I am not sure if the infotainment system has screen mirroring, i never thought to look. |

Screen has mirroring as Apple Car Play and Android Auto come as Standard (you have to connect by cable though as it isn’t so modern that it connects wirelessly.) I couldn’t get my MM app to work and it hasn’t been working on my 2020 iPhone SE for a while so I started using the OS app and that worked fine once I had found the app on the mirrored screen. I still prefer to use Waze and OS apps on my IPad Pro 11” on a Brodit dash mount in the old Defender as it’s easier to read than on the small 10” barrow new Defender screen.

Wireless Apple CarPlay sounds like a good idea. And I know it is possible in a few select vehicles. But the reality is, if you are using anything like Google Maps. Then it canes your battery. Plugging it in actually makes way more sense.

I want to love it, but something about the way it looks seems a bit wonky. It definitely looks weird on the small wheels. I applaud Ford for making it regardless. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

It seems to have the same issue in the two door as the New Defender 90 has with folding the rear seat - just less elegantly disguised! Only a small thing that LR missed a trick with is the universal mount for devices on top of the dash, I like that feature. I don’t understand why the the 7 speed manual needs a crawler gear as well as a transfer box - anyone any ideas why? Not sure, probably limited usefulness in reality. I suppose the crawler gear is handy if you are on an otherwise smooth, fast trail, but come across a short obstacle like a wash out, saves dropping down into low range and then coming to a halt afterwards to go back up. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Bronco and latest gen. Wrangler are what the Defender replacement should have been.
![]() Such a lost opportunity for JLR especially as they already had Disco 5 for those wanting a more luxurious offering. They could have seen sales volumes that Gerry could only dream of. |

I like the 3 door, though there’s more room in the rear of my 90. The 90 should’ve had that rear seat set up, the step though a bit more ungainly, isn’t as big as the 90. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue
