My dealership head technician has just phoned me to say the noise when braking was contaminant on the brake disk needed taking off and cleaned (@supacat this must be similar to what you posted about the finish on the disk). The differentials constantly locked is a known software fault that LR technical are currently developing a software patch due out in April, it will be rolled out to every vehicle. No issues found with the engine coolant it has stayed at the same level since I took it in but they will be doing pressure test later on today. All being well I should get my defender back tomorrow.

Yes I’m not getting my hopes up just yet. Will see how it is after a couple more weeks driving about.

If its a software issue - how come everyone does not have the same locked diffs? and have the alarm/warning.
That noise did not sound like brake disks..... |

I know someone else that has the differential problem. The technician said it should not be locking up at all but he assured me it is software only not a mechanical problem. They were hoping that the fix would be available this month but it’s been put back to next month. As for the brakes just spoken to another independent mechanic he said this:-
“Had that myself I am a mechanic and some brake discs we fit come with a thin layer of paint but if the manufacture doesn’t get it quite right they can make a horrible noise when braking, remove pads, reface pads job done” |

Question is were you riding the brakes in the video you posted? Did the noise only occur when braking?
As to the diff issue ~ I'd point to the Velar SSM where a software issue if not corrected promptly is then creating a potential mechanical issue. Are you supposed to drive it in the meantime? |

Yes both times in that video the noise occurred when I hit the brakes. He said I can understand you think it is mechanical but it is definitely the disk and 100% fixed now.
The differentials is only a screen glitch which requires software patch to sort out, they said I can drive the car as normal. Technician is calling me tomorrow to confirm the coolant has past pressure test then I’m good to collect the vehicle and drive as normal. He did say something about booking me back in for the software update once it is available? Not sure why that is. All I can do is give the car a good drive over the next couple of weeks and if it doesn’t reoccur then assume it is fixed. |

I got my defender back today and drove 25 miles seems fine so far. I will take it for a good drive on Monday. I’m happy to get it back though, the RRS wasn’t for me.
The dealership asked if I wanted the job sheet paperwork, it was 1” thick of job sheets! I said yes and they are going to scan them across to me next week. The differentials problem is screen fault only there is a patch being developed and the car will need to go in for it to be installed next month. The engine coolant tank passed the pressure test. I will update if there are any more problems. Thanks to everyone that helped and offered advice |

Let’s hope that is the last trip to the dealers until it’s first service, screen software update excepted of course. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

Here are the job sheets from my dealership, I was expecting more than just two pages as there was half inch thick pile when I collected the vehicle lol. Anyway seems the head of the service department didn’t tell me the truth with the mechanical noise when braking. He said it was some sort of coating that is put on them when they are in factory storage and they are supposed to clean it off before installation. Anyway this might be of help for someone else experiencing some of these problems.
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge And now onto my next warranty problem... Click image to enlarge SPF is peeling away in various sections of the bodywork this being the worst of them but I’ve inspected the whole vehicle and the application isn’t good the template JLR are using is a bit of a bodge job they don’t fold the wrap round the corners and in many body sections stop short on the edges leaving the cut exposed and vulnerable to peeling. I’ve had an independent installer look at the vehicle he said the wrap is the best on the market but the application is a cowboy job. My dealership have told me to take it to their body shop specialist for inspection. |
