An awful lot of technology has happened in the past 34 years, the alternative then was either/or.

I agree with the above, there is no denying it but they seem to be making things really complicated. I know they are not alone in this but wouldn't it be great if all of these glitches were detected pre sale? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Not much to update on today other than the dealership rang me again asking when I was going to drop my car off for scheduled works that were arranged from the last time it was in last Monday! This dealership really needs a kick up the backside they have rang me the past two days asking for the vehicle when it is already there!

No phone call from Land Rover resolution either, they mustn’t of been able to get through to the dealership as was the case yesterday. LRR said they would send and email to the service manager if they couldn’t get through. I will chase up tomorrow for update from them.

Nobody would mind the odd problem if there was an efficient system in place to deal with it. Here's hoping everything clicks into place for you. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Yes I wasn’t expecting it to be trouble free especially being a first edition model but the dealership service department don’t seem to be competent in what they are doing! Basic checks to the engine bay were missed (low engine coolant) and no rolling test drive was done to identify the mechanical noise on braking. No referring to Land Rover Assist diagnostic report to see what they had identified as the problem etc just seems bizarre that any Land Rover engineer would not do these basic checks.

@Supacat just had the service mechanic on the phone, they wanted me to run through all the problems so I went through them all and they focused on the mechanical noise which they mentioned the brake disk recall that you posted last week, I told them it’s a mechanical noise and I highly doubt that it is anything to do with the disk. They said the 2WD should be sorted now after software update which I’m doubtful was the problem. They then said the differentials locking is the torque vectoring working which I disagreed and mentioned that nobody else’s vehicle in the forum is doing it and that they were locked most of the time. The engine coolant they are going to do a compression test for leaks. I’m really annoyed they are trying to push the mechanical noise as a brake disk recall problem, I said listen to my YouTube video and tell me that is a brake disk!

I really don’t have much faith in the mechanics sorting these problems out.

Be careful that the dealers aren’t dragging this out to passed the 30 day rejection period for a new car

Scroll down to the “short term” bit Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Those problems were supposed to be limited to the 19" wheels and the nature of the issue with the disc surface meant the juddering/noise was only apparent under braking.

Three things there -
Ask them for details of the software update - was it this one?
Q86ARR wrote:
Looks like it could be a configuration error
I would point your dealer to the following document:
SSM75294 - Defender (L663) & Discovery (L462) 21MY - 2 wheel drive only displayed in IPC
If the software was not SSM 75294, then ask for a copy of that also and see if you thing it is applicable to your issues.

Ask them about SSM 75152 for Range Rover & Discovery - if yours has been suffering from "excess duty" on the clutches in the differential and transfer case (as evidenced by your video), then shouldn't they be undertaking similar remedial work. Noting, if flushing them both does not solve the problem, the JLR solution is (in the case of the transfer case) replacement of the transfer case.

Digger2000 wrote:

From your video, it's hard to see why torque vectoring would be required whilst moving in a straight line, at low speed on a high grip metalled road; but then who know's what goes on in the head of a JLR's software engineer?

Have they checked the oil dipstick?

Maybe get the CR chap involved?

Thank you very much Supacat your knowledge on defenders/Land Rovers is second to none I appreciate your help. Thumbs Up

I have checked my remote app and at least they are doing rolling test drive in my car now

Waiting for them to come back to me with progress on the repairs but I will be sure to check what they have done and update the forum when I know more.

You may want to edit that last photo if one of those is your home address...
