I need to build a complete brake pipe system for my '89 110, and I am a little confused by the all the options, I wonder if anyone could clarify things for me please?
The vehicle is not very 'standard' anymore, having had a rear disc conversion on the Salisbury axle, and fitted with the more up-to-date vented front discs and calipers. I have looked at the complete system from Pioneer 4x4: https://pioneer4x4.com/collections/complet...-1983-1990 but I already have the extended flexible brake fittings from Gwyn Lewis, and being a disc conversion I suspect that kit wouldn't fit. Plus - I think I would prefer hard lines rather than flexible ones, I might just be old fashioned but it seems to me having them rigidly fixed to the top the chassis rail is a nice and reliable setup. Similarly the pre-built kit from: https://automec.co.uk/products/brake-pipe-...-wagon-rhd is unlikely to fit due to the disc conversion My Father has lent me a good quality brake pipe flaring tool and pipe bender, so the next option is construct it all myself, and I see that I can get 'coils' of 3/16" copper-nickel from Automec, which I understand is the size used on Land Rovers? https://automec.co.uk/collections/brake-pi...l-imperial What about the fittings? Automec sell fitting kits in metric and imperial at: https://automec.co.uk/collections/fittings...ssortments RallySteve stated (https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic77086.html) that the fittings are metric for the Defender - but if that is the case I am confused why Wrights Auto Supplies selling a kit which uses UNF fittings? https://www.wrightsautosupplies.co.uk/prod...-in-brass/ Most of these retailers off both pure Copper, and a Copper/Nickel mix (Kunifer I think its called?). I gather the copper option is a little more flexible and so easier to bend, but then what is the benefit of the Copper/Nickel mix - a bit more corrosion resistance and less work hardening? Cheers! Kunifer is what you want, 3/16” diameter. All fittings are M10x1 as noted.
If you’ve got the standard rear disc setup and vented fronts then you’ve basically got the standard setup for a 1993 - 2005 (ish) 110. |

Hi just a quick one.If you make your own pipes, check that the flaring tool will make metric ends.Imperial pipe for both, metric male fittings metric flare.Imperial male fittings imperial flare.
