Netherlands 1986 Defender 90 V8 Petrol CSW Auto Tonga Green
PHEV - P400e Plug in Hybrid
Hello everybody, i'm new at the forum. Thanks for letting me in!
I'm driving Land Rover for many years, have 2 old Defenders for the fun, both with V8 petrol. (Discovery 3,9)
One is a soft top in Heritage trim and the other one is nice Tonga green beast, with air suspension, auto gear box etc etc
For business and daily i use Discovery 5 diesel, very nice ride, extremely soft, almost Range Rover comfort. (I drove the Disco5 true PERU in 1 week as member of the Land Rover Experience Tour...)

Living in Holland, close to the beach, work in the booze business and has 4 kids. (so my wife has 5 to live with)

Enough about me.....
is there any news about the coming P400e / PHEV DEFENDER, because of tax laws, this could be a very nice option for daily ride. Adding battery pack on a car saves 30k euro on list price here in holland, maybe the car is more exprensive on the pricelist, but i'm still curious about the specifications. I test drove the P400e in a new Range Rover Sport, more or less same driveline and was really impressed.

When is production starting of the P400e, what I've heared very quick, mid September......

Hi and welcome to the Forum.
Unfortunately I’m not able to help answer your question as I’ve still not read anything that gives away when the 400E is coming out on the Defender.

Just to clarify, are you saying you have a 30k Euros surcharge on top of the asking price if you now buy a new vehicle that isn’t Electric or plug in Hybrid?!! Sold the Puma Defender and bought a brand new Pangea Green 2020 Defender D240 S with a few factory extras!

not a recent thing, remember looking at some motorcycle pricing some years back and they were massively more costly than other Euro countries

Pretty much the same thing in Finland. The P400e is the cheapest Defender due to taxation.

I'm assuming you can't just hope over to Germany and buy it there? I thought that was the point of the EU - free trade and free movement of goods?

I doubt the P400e is the cheapest in any country WITHOUT government interventions that are linked to the place you pay taxes.

I'd presume you could buy it cheaper elsewhere but would still get done for the extra when registering it. WARNING.

a fine example of the invisible and non-existant level playing field they were so desperate to retain.... Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

I believe that is effectively how it works. The large taxes in certain countries tend to be registration taxes. These apply even if you already own the vehicle. If you're living in the country for more than 6 months you have to register your car locally. You then pay local registration and road taxes. If you had already paid registration taxes in your previous country you might get a rebate on the original taxes.

You certainly can shop-around for a cheaper purchase price within the EU but you still will be responsible for local non-sales taxes.

Just seen in the Facebook group that someone got a phone call from Land Rover to inform them their P400e order has been cancelled! It was supposed to be built 12th February with delivery a month later. No new date given and no explanation as to why it has been cancelled.
