Matt black lower trim and “£50,000” price tag make me think it’s a P300 then.
Also I really don’t think any or many PHEVs are available yet. And “topping up the battery” sounds like standard battery to me. I doubt they’d even have a high voltage EV charging point in the middle of the showroom either. I’d bet it’s not a PHEV but happy to be proven wrong if so. They plug the cars in to run the DRL on display without running down the battery.

weight suggests its a P300 - doesn't appear heavy enough for the P400e Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Not sure I’d say it was “very worrying”... All kinds of cars regularly catch fire for various reasons. Not seen anything to suggest a systematic failure or problem. Cheers, David

If you were doing a risk assessment then whilst the probability is, hopefully, low or very low; the consequence is at the top end in terms of material damage so extreme/very serious. But I haven't seen anything, other than third party speculation, as to the exact cause of the fire following: "Peter Lovett, the owner of the Dick Lovett chain, said: "I would like to thank the fire brigade for their rapid action in saving any lasting damage to the building. It is much appreciated." He added: "My staff were trying to put the vehicle out on display in the used car showroom and they were topping up the battery on a battery charger. "They noticed smoke coming out of the car and inside a minute they had unplugged the battery charger. "But the fire had started inside the car and it went up in flames. It has been completely destroyed." It's amazing the window went in the heat but there's very little obvious damage to the low roof in the building. Click image to enlarge |

I wonder if the fire department will do an investigation into the causes?

I doubt it’s that one. A car check on the registration shows it registered early March ‘21. To do 5000mls it would have to have some serious work in the time till now. Can you imagine if this was someone’s car inside a house garage at night while they trickle charge the battery? Could of been a different story here. Why couldn’t the fire be controlled and stopped with on site fire extinguishers? Something isn’t right here ...a full report needed

Don’t worry, the internet fire investigation experts have already decided it was a hybrid battery fault. No need for any actual facts to get in the way of some good hysteria.

Many businesses now will not train staff to fight a fire where only property is in danger. The view is any fire fighting materials are for use, if necessary, to evacuate people. Leave the seat of the fire to the professionals. Vehicle fires can be particularly nasty. I recall a fire fighter telling me that brake fluid (?) becomes a particularly hazardous material after a fire. |
