Brexit tax
Has anyone else been declined a purchase from an on-line supplier in Europe today? I tried to buy from a German company and when I went to the checkout was advised that due to overseas suppliers having to set up accounts with HMRC to pay duty they cannot deal with U.K. customers any longer. In effect a Boris Brexit Tax if you want to buy from European sellers.
I’ve purchased stuff from outside the EU for many years and the courier service has always invoiced and collected the duty but apparently things changed on 1st Jan with European sellers needing to set up accounts with the HMRC instead. So much for no extra costs / penalties for accepting the trade deal. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Tim,

Before 31/12/2020 you would have had to pay tax (German MWSt), and the purchase crossed into the UK freely.

Now, the UK is not part of the EU VAT area, so you are not charged German VAT.

However EU sellers selling into the UK have to be registered with HMRC to collect UK VAT. This basically saves HMRC the job of assessing for duty at the UK border Rolling Eyes and shifts the work onto the retailers for VAT returns and paying up, etc.

Pretty sure the EU is due to start the same in July.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

And to make matters worse, half of Amazon prime / prime video has stopped and can no longer access BritBox.........

But at least Stanley Johnson is applying for his French passport.

In Germany things might be a bit different because they reduced VAT from 19 to 16 percent in thé last months due to Covid. They're re-establishing 19% at the moment.

Although I've already experienced that some German companies cancel any shipment to France (which is still part of EU)

Just refer to shipment policies on their website in order to make sure your country is within their wishlist.

Yep for me In Spain buying from Germany is issue on Amazon as I don’t get the 16% vat if they will send to me I get a surcharge that makes it 21% I still buy the bits from Germany as for some reason they get to me next day when some more local suppliers take 1-2 weeks. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Ohlala, a surcharge is not in conformance with EU laws.
If an article is bought in Germany, the gouvernement will charge the current VAT (= 16%)
Just refer to the address on your invoice.

If it is a Spanish address, they'll pay thé VAT in Spain.
If not, well, I do believe their going to keep this money for themselves. Mr. Green

And i've no refund, if I buy in Spain (21% TVA in Spain - 20% TVA inFrance should be 1% refund for me)

Julie, I have learnt that Spain is a law unto themselves, if they get caught applying a tax that’s not EU legal they will quickly change there rules to conform to the EU law but the day after a new tax (normally at the same or higher value) will hit you.

I have spent 3 months trying to get a towbar legalized on my defender (it’s a EU compliment towbar and when you speak to the manufacturers they say it meets all EU laws but nope I’m in Spain so an extra €320 has been needed and lots of trips to see people to get clear what’s needed.

For me I have sold stuff to the US in the past from the UK europe should as I understand be the same process now. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Tried to buy some outdoor clothing from a few EU stores but they won't ship to UK. One place would but it will cost 20% more. That's plus UK vat and customs fees. Also DHL are adding €26.99 handling fee to many items from EU.

Ebay are now adding 20% to all international purchases. WARNING.

In theory that may be the case but in practice it hasn't happened yet. Some German sellers I have tried have stopped selling to the UK or add vat, ROW tax or handling fee. WARNING.

Yes just now, tried to order some clips for the Dogs trackers from Tractive and the cart wouldn't work. I then went to their websites homepage and they state they are currently not shipping to UK due to Brexit complications.
