Would you say that the noise develops when you over run or that it’s masked when you’re on the throttle?
And how fast is the chicka chicka chicka? Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Hard to diagnose without hearing, but first thoughts would be the clutch driven plate (worn or loose springs) or the output adaptor shaft splines. There are other possibilities too.

Thanks guys.
Bit more info. No it’s not masked, it develops on the transition and lasts for about 5 or 6 “Chickas” Quite fast. New modified adaptor shaft 5000 miles ago It doesn’t feel clutch related, I’ve had springs go in the driven plate before an remember the noise that made. No noises from the clutch at lower speeds. There is some backlash from somewhere in the transmission line. 2011 130 Utility Body 2005 110 Van |

I sometimes get a noise from the handbrake drum when I've been driving at speed and then drop the clutch. I think it winds up the tension. Usually goes if I waggle the handbrake which seems to loosen the cable a bit..... Monsieur Le Grenadier

Does it happen on a particular gear only? Motorway speeds... means 6th gear? Does it happen on 5th (5th being a direct drive)?
If it happens on any gear, and happens at any speed, is the chicka chicka engine rpm related or vehicle speed related? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Can’t really say if it does it in 5th. Definitely 6th. Lift off at 70mph and it does it 5 or 6 times. When you go back on the power it does it 3 or 4 times a bit quieter.
Doesn’t do it at lower speeds. I don’t think it’s handbrake, sounds too far forwards but I guess that can be deceptive. 2011 130 Utility Body 2005 110 Van |
