Does the breather system have any serviceable parts?
The bit I've arrowed in red, does that come off and what's under it if it does? Does that mean the breather system has a serviceable part, maybe the oil separator? It's not in the Hayes Manual (but then there's quite a lot not in the manual!).

The part arrowed is a plastic cover and can be prised off easily. Underneath it retains a sprung diaphragm which yes is part of the breather system but not really an oil separator. It's sprung in the open position so only closes on negative crankcase pressure (never?)

Mine was well baked and had gone hard and crispy so I fitted a new one. Land Rover don't list the diaphragm separately but you can get them... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114273693389

The rocker cover kind of has an oil separator built into it. The fumes enter into a void in the cover at the front of the engine (circled green in below photo), pass through some galleries and then the gasses exhaust out at the rear (green arrow). Presumably the idea is that oily residue/suspended liquids are supposed to drop out of the fumes and run back to the rocker leaving only 'clean' fumes exhausting from the valve, but as we know this is rarely the case

Is there any purpose in the part numbered LR006031 in the diagram above?

As far as I know it was not fitted to defenders, and as far as I can tell it serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever on the LR version of the engine (possibly less useless on a Transit or similar). If you google it is is about £16 to buy.

The cover stops the bonnet being dented when you forget to remove the bottle of beer before slamming bonnet.....If the cover is fitted you can't leave the beer there.

Ah yes of course! The recess that it fills in the rocker cover has (drainage?) holes in the bottom of it, yet the cover has a sealing o ring on it? Go figure! > 110 XS Double Cab

Hey Andy, I’m having similar problems to yours and am wondering where you are at with sorting them?

I too had leaking from the fuel pump cover at the front of the engine
I had the injector seats cleaned and new washers and seals which has dramatically improved the car however it is still losing a small amount of oil from the same cover (cover has also been replaced out of precaution,
I saw your before and after videos and mine was also similar with visible exhaust gases coming from the oil filler cap.

I am now looking at the breather system in the valve cover thinking it might be restricted possibly, but with the engine running and the pipe removed (connecting to turbo inlet pipe) it does have mild blow by coming out, not smoky however.
