It could possibly be the culprit yes, putting the tube aside. The PF Jones ones are good. You can simply swap it and don’t need any programming or specialist equipment.

I did on mine and solved all the issues I ha e and brought a lot of power back.
She felt like she needed pushing all the time before and lacked high end power.
Your sun pots you’ve mentioned could simply be reversed, mine was cutting out in low gears. The VCV does do that and an erratic idle after very cold winter starting can also be a symptom but mild and disappears when warm.

I would try it if it’s over 5 years old, defiantly if it’s original. Mine was about 11 years old.

Would i need to take it to the garage or could i change it myself ?

Does it need new software or does it learn by tiself ?

Best regards Defender 110 Puma 2.4 tdci

You can do it yourself easily if you know which way round to hold a spanner Wink Very Happy

I didn't do a relearn on mine with no issues.

I removed the air intake manifild as i've got big hands, but you can do it without removing it.

A BAS remap is going to cost over £600 for a remote tool, i'd advise to go for the VCV first and see how you get on, especially as you have a remap already.

It's surprising what a difference a worn VCV can throw up.

No programming required and it will self learn. Not a difficult job to to just a bit fiddly.
There are torque settings for the two hex key bolts, but so long as you don’t over tighten they are fine. I have a1/4” digital torque screwdriver which I did mine with though.

You can take the electrical plug on and off when the unit is removed from its housing.
It’s best to disconnect the battery doing the job too.

I simply replaced mine and has been perfect, I notice so so much more power now. I’d say better than she was for years.
Really does pull, and it’s definitely the VCV.
If you want to go the whole hog I’d suggest changing the MAF & MAP Sensors too if they are old.
Cleaning works for some time but eventually best replaced, I went for OEM manufacture parts which were the same but a third of the cost LR charge.
Genuine Ford MAF & Bosch MAP sensors, both can be changed for around £80 approx.

LR’s prices you’ll fall off your chair...

They are the same parts, and you should be able to find this info on here using the ‘search’ function as it is my posts that I created a thread about it.
The MAP by Bosch is easy to source, the MAF from Ford not quite so easy but is available.

At the age you’ve mentioned I would suggest the VCV as culprit as mine went recently too, but the other parts could do with changing.
There is no programming needed for changing these parts, they’ll all self learn.

If the issues still persist then I’d contact the tuner but BAS is very good and maybe able to assist. Mines an Alive tube but they are both leaders in the field. I would tend to think these parts are culprit and not the tune and the VCV does not flag any DTC’s or MIL (Amber dash light) which makes it had to trace.

Hope this info helps. Thumbs Up $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
