Does the heater valve move when you turn the knob inside (heater valve seams to be a cheep part on these and breaks often) Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Yes, it works fine when driving along at 2000rpm but when stopped on idle the heat stops

This is fairly normal on a TDCi, and provided that the coolant level is well up there is not much you can do about it. The heater is extremely sensitive to coolant level, but will also vary enormously according to what the engine is doing.

Pretty normal unfortunately. Mine a either cold or hotter than the gates of hell. No really middle ground!!
