The series III wheels would fit but they would be tubed.
Your best option would be either standard tubeless steel wheels from a later model 90/110, or the Wolf/HD rims (also available tubeless) for a much stronger wheel. The latter is also 6.5” wide rather than 5.5” which allows you to run a bigger selection of tyres. |

Thanks - yeah I was confident that they would fit but wasn't sure if it would be unsafe to run a Series 3 wheel on the TD5. I know there some heavier duty options but they are all 6.5 wide. Pretty sure I'm after the ANR 4636 5.5j x 16.
I can see from the photos these ones have tubeless tires on them. |

Just because they have tubeless tires fitted doesn’t mean the rims are suitable, they may be tubed. You should be able to see a ridge in the rim of a tubless rim.
As far as I know no series 111’s had tubeless rims, they came in sometime during Defender production. |

Yup, you're right, none of the earlier steel wheels were tubeless. These ones I'm looking at must be running tube inside the tubeless tire. They are also riveted - not welded.
Ok so now I'm getting somewhere. I need the RRC503600PM. The LR023152 says it's suited for Defenders 2007 on. Cheers! |

Does anyone know if there is any reason why the LR023152 for 2007+ Defender wouldn't fit on a 2004? Britpart have told me the steel wheel for my VIN is now obsolete and that the LR023152 is not stated as compatible. I could do the ANR4636 but they are tubed. I think I'd prefer to go tubeless if I can.

Because Britpart are idiots. There's no difference between the standard tubeless steel wheels used pre and post 2007. I can only guess that the change in part number reflects something like a manufacturer change. Darren

Steels rims from the earliest 90/110 era to the latest Defender are physically interchangeable, including classic Range Rover and Discovery 1. There might be load rating difference though, but never checked the details. I assume later ones shout meet tougher requirements.

I just bought some Kahn 1947 steel wheels for my 1999 100 TD5 (they are on route) to replace the Boost alloys that I've increasingly started to hate. I bought the Kahn's over the Wolf's to get the width (16 x 9") to give more tire choice.
Wheels, Tires, steel nuts, hub caps are all ordered and en-route now. Question: while the wheels will come with a matte/satin finish and should be ready to go - any advice on protecting them from rust? They use a tonne of salt on the roads here (Ontario, Canada). Thoughts? |

ANR4583PM are the “wolf” HD wheels. They come in black e-coat primer. I powder coated mine white, over the e-coat(an excellent substrate for powdercoating). LR053845 are the tubeless version of the 5.5” wide wheels your truck probably has. E-coated too. NB if you’re wanting oem parts, I’ve found JLR Classic to be shockingly reasonable. In Canada at least(can’t speak to NZ of course) cheaper and faster than the dealer. Good fast shipping too.  Click image to enlarge |
