Brilliant! It’s one of those little things that is hugely satisfying to fix. Well done. Dave

I read this topic this very morning, thinking I had this issue solved because it had been almost four years since it last happened.
Ten minutes later I had to move the Defender and consequently struggled 15 minutes to close a door. It was the first cold night.... It ab-so-lu-te-ly wouldn't lock until I applied some lockspray used upwards into the lock. Problem solved immediately, it didn't even need a second try! J |

...the Landrovernet linky on the first page doesn't appear to be working?
Could anyone kindly summarize the 'fix' as my rear doors on my 110 are playing up in the cold! |

For mine it was a case of spraying loads of brake cleaner into latch mechanism, washing or out all the old gloopy stuff then all work brilliantly. Then a quick reoil with thin oil. Gt85 for me.

I have had problems with my passenger door latch in all weathers since I bought the 90 in March.
I have just followed the procedure and it is working perfectly now. I just love this forum such a wealth of knowledge on it that people are willing to share. Thanks 2016 Defender Landmark 90 2005 Defender CSW TD5 90XS |

My doors have started to almost spring back open when I close them since the temp has dropped and when close them I have to do it firmly and hold it.
Given how it appears to be one of those Defender foibles, I'll give this a shot at the weekend to see if it makes a difference |

This is a brilliant fix! With the colder weather, my passenger door has been bouncing open when you slam it and would only latch intermittently if you kept pressure on it when closing from outside.
I tried the procedure with brake cleaner and the latch was working perfectly again within a couple of minutes. Now planning to spray in some light oil and will keep the brake cleaner handy for if/when it happens again . . . . 2005 Defender 90 TD5 |

Yep, same here, passenger door bouncing open when shut.
Unable to open the link on page 1 but l sprayed the mechanism with WD-40 and it now works fine. Be aware that the latching mechanism is ABOVE the latch and not below. So if you are spraying WD-40 or similar in to it (without dismantling the door) then you need to direct it upwards into the mechanism. |

Tried the brakecleaner trick today on the 110 Td5 ... spectacular result
Used almost a full can because the locks were very sticky, but this really works very well Peter, Defender 110 StaWa - Td5 Defender 110 HCPU - Puma Defender 90 Soft Top - Td5 |

Does anyone have an image of where exactly the cleaner needs to go?

It’s 1.30pm and the garage has not called me so I am guessing that it has passed the MOT that was booked in at 10.30 for.
On a side note on my 90 under the plastic spacer (under the door latch) I have a heep of the 1mm spacers. This I have noticed allows the latch to move flex ever so slightly when closing, re slamming the door closed, and hence does not fully engage the door catch. Though oddly not a spring summer problem. When I get the car back I will be replace the 1mm spacers with a square of 4mm alloy square and spray it to match the body colour. |
