Hi,
Any advise on how to install Koni shocks 90-5374 and 90-5375 (not 90-5374SP1 and 90-5375SP1) on Puma in order to avoid the issues with the rear shocks. I bought them from paddockspares.com but according to the Sales guy I buy them on my own responsibility because they are for Defender 110 models prior Puma. He said that it happens because of the way rear shocks connects. The only reported issues that I have found is related to the welded washer on Pumas. Interesting. What trouble do they cause? I have standard height fox shocks, should I have removed them?

I just changed the oil and took a look on the rear original shocks - 120 000km mostly on road and 10% off-road. Their external washers that sit on the bottom are bended. It is clear that they wasn't hit on rock as they stay almost inside the welded ones.
The question now is - could this be the cause that breaks KONI RAID shocks rods on Pumas? Another useful information that I found was on Gwyn's web site https://gwynlewis4x4.co.uk/product/shock-b...shock-kit/ These are very important for all + 5 inch LONG TRAVEL SHOCK ABSORBERS, the washers are used to centralize the shock in the shock mount, they help stop the pin of the shock absorber wearing the hole in the upper and lower mounts by holding the pin of the shock in the centre of the hole, 2 per shock absorber are required, they are fitted as in the picture and the reverse on the bottom mount, on later rear axles the original cup washers are spot welded in by 4 spot welds, these must be removed as they restrict articulation and will cause the pin of the shock to brake off, once they are removed you can then fit these new ones as they will allow more movement for the shock bush to flex. |

If those cups are removed, what locates the the pin laterally? That’s the job the cups were doing. Won’t it end up opening out the hole in the axle bracket over time? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

When I receive shocks - around 10 days I will see their washers. I found this for Koni RAID spear parts

You fit the separate inner pair of washers which have a locating section that fits into the axle, visible in the photo above. |

No because washers sit inside the hole which locates the pin. Not the best pic but you can just about see the shape of the washer. Click image to enlarge My 2004 110 and 2002 90 had those cups. Thanks both, clearly explained. This might be a little job to do next time I change the lower shock bushes. Can you use the standard cupped bushes? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

lets hope that removing of the welded washers and installing Koni's will allow me to user those non SP1 Raid shocks without any issues.
Once I have the kit I will report if such washers are available in it. |

I spoke with Koni. According to them they do not produce those shocks since 2012. The current model is SP1 and the difference is the dumping characteristics.
Checking with Paddock Spares if they have them in stock since then. The last makes me worry |

Paddock told me that their shocks are with SP1 at the end produced 2020. Waiting for the shocks now.
I got them a week before and today they have been installed. Front shocks took me 4 hours. Now I can do them for 2. Rear were done for 1 hour. I put them front ++ and rear +++. They came from the factory with softest setup and my springs are HD. This setup is firm for not loaded vehicle on one hand but on the other it is very stable in the corners. |
