I would say all damaged parts should be replaced. Even then that doesn't cover the delay you will incur while they make it right so I would hope they would throw you something else in good faith. It's not something I'd be too worried about.. get it in writing that they will replace all damaged parts as soon as it's feasible to do so, then take the opportunity to fit any bumper off accessories at the same time.

It’s already at the shop in queue for repairs. Who the heck knows how long it’s gonna take to source that bumper. I was so close!

I’m amazed they told you. Pretty sure quite a few vehicles turn up at dealerships damaged and get fixed without the owner ever knowing....just ‘there’s been a delay at the factory..’

Welcome to New Defender ownership and the forum.
Take a look at this video and it looks like you will need a complete new front bumper/fender that they can fit at the same time as doing the front bash plate if you are fitting that. appreciate your frustration but it’s one of those things that could happen to any car, keep your cool, let them fix it to “as new” standard and if there is a delay in getting the car to you ask to have use of a similar or better specced vehicle for as long as procurement takes. I’m sure it wasn’t the dealership’s fault but I expect the transporter driver will have been disciplined severely. FYI here it doesn’t take very long to get hold of parts like that - often overnight from a central parts store held nationally (remember even here in the UK this car isn’t built here so sometimes it takes a wee bit longer for bits to come from the factory - 6 weeks in the case if my A pillar trims- but I still had a drivable car). I’m sure that LRNA has a good stock of replacement bits at their warehouse near Baltimore. If you are having the front protection plate fitted ( I have it on my car) then ask them to waive the labour costs for fitting it as compensation as that is as much as the cost of the protection plate. This. Many new cars end up being repaired prior to fist sale and the owner is generally none the wiser. If it is put through an approved shop the repaired vehicle will (should) be every bit as good as a new one (one reason why these repairs are so expensive) and the dealer doesn't even need to tell you. I imagine that it will be necessary to replace the scuffed plastic bit with a new part, and I really doubt that you'd even know it had been damaged if you hadn't been told. That being said, I would check it very closely when they hand it over and if you are not happy, tell them. |

Just have an agreement that they will replace with new, all damaged parts when in for first service. 80" 1948

Whilst the delay in getting the car is frustrating it's not the end of the world. Minor damage by the looks of it and the dealer has been upfront about it and is rectifying it.

On the positive side, it appears that the damage is to an unpainted plastic part which they ought to be able to replace without it ever being noticed.

Why not hold off, get it in writing, or even hold the parts at home; run with the damaged parts and then if you incur more damage off road you know it counts for nothing with your free repair up your sleeve. Get new parts fitted sometime down the road, maybe before you sell or are doing a major refresh. |

Thank you all for advice! Unfortunately not my car yet so LR gets to do with it what they feel is best. I actually definitely appreciate the transparency of my salesperson. They 100% didn’t have to do that. Coincidentally our other LR was scheduled for some work today so I was able to sneak a peak of the defender damage.

You shouldn't even notice the repair! - my D4 suffered a huge dent in the door before I collected it..... no trace of dent ... mind you had to go back to Bodyshop for numerous other issues that should have been picked up on QC/PDi.... 'paint lag', damaged rear top stop light, etc .... and just a few weeks or so ago (after 5 years of ownership) rust bubbles on upper door window frame.
Still got the 'B' Pillar rattle .... despite the alleged fix So be prepared for a few visits back and forth - mechanical/electrical maybe but especially bodywork! According to 'Which' magazine 'Land Rover still the most unreliable brand...' You'll soon be on first name terms with your local dealer if my experience is anything to go by..... |
