New Work Shop build
Well following my post on bricks others maybe interested to see my new garage / Workshop build.


After spending weeks going through quotes from bespoke oak garages, Steel framed ones and wooden ones I have come up with my choice and options.


I've gone for basically a shed, but thicker and a bit bigger. The way I looked at it, its a workshop / garage and for what I can get size wise this should do me nicely.


So it will be 6m wide with 2 double doors, and 12m long with windows at the back and side along with two pedestrian doors.



Luckily we have two garages, one attached to the house and another at the back , its the back garage I 'have' its detached from the house and is my 'space' it has served its purpose but as we all know, we need more room !!!


So the current set up...when we moved in 7 years ago..

I tried to make it 'look' better and added a carport for the trailer(s)

But you cannot really work on a car in it... not with all the other stuff we accumulate... I sorted it once...

So I was waiting to speak to planning about building a new one, but due to Covid everything shut down. Then out of the blue the planning website changed and it comes under permitted development and the size is governed by your plot... so the build starts. Thumbs Up


Anyone who has emptied a garage knows just how much stuff we keep.....what a job !!

So now I need to make the base, wider and much longer, the levels are all to pot with the current slam raising up towards the garden.

Wooden,

Basically a huge shed only thicker and a tad bigger 6m wide by 12m long....


first peal back cut in the garden...

Someone mentioned stumps.... I had the ones at the side removed with a stump grinder, but we had 3 at the back..... quite large !!! which we had to try and remove....

This gives you an idea of size, so removing 3 took quite a while !!!

^ it will not be.... due to planning I can only go up 4m.


With the span of the building the best we think we can get is around 800mm to 1000mm to jack up the car at one point in the garage. Using a stepped up joist / beam.

to be honest that's better than what I had by 100% so will make getting under it easier anyway Thumbs Up

Do a Si Rafferty and bolt the garage to the lift so when you need it the shed goes up with the lift and still keeps you dry. Ed

I will get a small lift it just will not go up very high Smile


Did think about a pit but the extra time, effort to build that. I've enough on at the moment.

Is the side of the garage on the side of your boundary as it should be clear by 1M to fall under PD requirement?

Well not so much a shed but Si did make a carport to enclose his lift next to the shed at home. In everyday use his vehicles could be parked undercover and if he wanted to work on them the carport went up with it so even if it rained he could stay dry underneath. Ed
