We have a lot of soil in huge mounds on what was the garden which probably isn't helping...
Your right though, plan is to have a soakaway just up from where its pooling. Then also some aco drians on the solid part running into the existing drains. Hopefully it will be better. |

What is your ground make up if your planning to create a soak away?

Hi Gamekeeper,
How do you mean, it just looks like grass / soil to me..... Further up outside of our property is apparently a spring, this runs through our garden at an angle, plan is to use perforated pipe and have a channel from higher up in the garden to the soak away. Then have separate additional aco drains in front of the new building and guttering to existing drains. |

I think what gamekeeper is getting at is soakaways dont work if ground heavy clay or water logged (high water table).
I'm sure your builders know what they're talking about though. I'd always much rather drain water to a ditch or off-site drainage if possible. Not much update, but I have been busy...
I've had the concrete guy come round and look at job. He's checked the levels and I needed to break a bit more of existing concrete so the breaker hired again. Then while we had the breaker we have temporarily fixed the water backing up. Then today I've cut out a channel and broke the concrete up ready for a heavy duty aco drain. Little to report
but... Aco drain in near front of 'yard area' where the water used to pool anyway so good job done. Click image to enlarge Framework up as Concrete guy specified, with lots of rebar and brace pieces. Click image to enlarge So Need to get the concrete guy round to check all looks ok and then book in a day or two of dry weather... Maybe doesn't look like much but only being able to work after work and part of weekends, its a job on  especially with the British weather at the moment.
I've been looking at drainage for the roof water and have an idea for that, then I need to start widening the path on the left as you look at the 'floor-plan' as this needs to have a retaining wall down one side.... That's going to be fun as the ground is solid, |

Well the weather had been so bad lately very little to report.
Its either too wet for concrete or too cold at the moment,and my job is in a queue behind others. Anyway now I've finished work I've spent a few morning digging out wet solid clay / sandstone to make the path down the side wider ready for a retaining wall. So I started here, and making it just over 1m wide Click image to enlarge I'm now here... so about 3m more to do. Click image to enlarge Then I need to work out what size RSJ's I need and have them made /cut to size. Its going to be fun trying to sink these into the ground. So I'm plodding on slowly..... |

Big Big update, the garden and everywhere else still looks a state but...
Concrete poured on Friday, team arrived at 7am with the pump truck and concrete arrived at 7.30 I also hired a petrol poker which apparently works very well making it even better... The guys pouring it one of them is coming back on Saturday to cut an expansion slot right across. So one truck with 7.5 cubic meters and another with 6 cubic meters... Click image to enlarge So this then has a knock on affect as I then moved 76 concrete blocks from the front of the house to the back ready to build the base the garage is going to sit on top. I've still loads of jobs but this feels like I'm heading forwards again. The area looks bigger than it did awaiting the concrete.. very odd but it does.. Will have to get them back to sort a ramp and other bits at a later date. Then I put our hand prints under where a workbench will go before it set with the kids and then put our initials on them
