Fitting side steps - riv nut query!

Hi guys, I’m fitting some drop down side steps to a 110 puma. I’ve attached them to the inside of the sill but am unsure on connecting the supporting crossbar to the chassis. The instructions say to drill an 9.5 mm hole in the chassis for the Rivnut, however where the hole is likely to be drilled there is a hexagonal hole, am I to assume this is a predrilled hole for precisely fitting a step like I’m doing? And does it need a hexagonal rivnut? Also the hole also seems marginally bigger than 8mm, more like 10 mm. Any clarification would be appreciated! 3 photos of the hole attached. Cheers. Alex

You need this sort of thing:

These links are chosen at random as examples, do not assume that these are the right size.

Here you go. It’s item 10.
(I’m on with the same job on my 110).

As above, but it should be in the kit?

A tip if you use the vehicle off road is to flip the support bar around end to end and fit it upside down so that it is a couple of inches higher along its length. It makes it less likely to hang up off road and bend the steps back. Doesn't quite look right but looks better than it does after you smite it on a rock! ---

Thanks guys, the kit I bought was from Bearmach and included round rivnuts so looks like I’ll need to get hold of some hexagonal ones then should be job done. Thanks for the tip Bogmonster, I did think you lost quite a bit of ground clearance installing as per the instructions.
