my experience is 2.4s will do quite good MPG if you keep them below 1750 rpm and 50 mph DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

40mpg?!!! That’s amazing! I was getting 30 with a 150 map from BAS in a 2.2. I then upgraded to the 170map and I’m getting 32! Have done the air box mod as well and a straight through exhaust from dpf back.

May I kindly suggest you take a drivers training focussing on economical driving? From experience, the about £100 spent are worth more all money you throw on technical alterations. It just needs the willingness to accept once own imperfection. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel. |

I'm finding this hard to believe... The 10-year average on my 2.4 is 10.5l/100km, best figure I ever got was 9.1l/100km. This is with the air filter mod, BAS remap, bigger IC, de-cat, roof-rack removed, etc -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Have done the very same course! My daily drive is 20 miles each way, of which c.90% is cruising at 55 in 6th and carry no load other than me and the dog. I have a delicate right foot, barely brake and coast whenever the opportunity suits. I also use premium diesel if that matters? I have a suspicion I have a breather leak, will know soon enough. I’d appreciate knowing what more I can do to get over 20% improvement in economy. I’d love to know what the average for 2.2 90 owner out there is? |

I also have a 90 XS SW 2.2 and I'd say I get roughly 28 mpg from mine... so ~300 miles to the tank... that appears to be inline with expected figures across most sites which I've just googled (autocar, honest john etc)
I'm running BFG AT's (265/75/16) not sure on the PSI... been a while since I checked to be honest. I have an IRB stage 2 with PWR intercooler, silicon hoses & a turbo technics turbo if that helps. I don't notice a massive change in mpg if I drive it like miss daisy or drive it like I stole it... so mostly I go with the later |

Driving everywhere below 1750 rpm is my idea of hell but I applaud those that can. Good for the wallet and the planet. Not sure the engine will like it much though. WARNING.

I'm in the region of 28 to 30 mpg with a steady right foot . put the foot down and it drops fast I have tried to see if I can get more but using premium fuel only makes a light difference however I feel the engine is smoother running

Just pulled one data set from the book keeping account of one of the GPS tracked 90 TD4 (original as delivered by factory): on average 38.2 MPG for 320k miles in almost 10 years (best tank fill 45.9, worst 26.5 with heavy towing). But, this is a 2.4 - the 2.2 are not doing that well. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.
