Well folks, it’s here, they have been on sale for a few months and I doubt very much no matter how many “anti” posts there are in this forum that JLR will be considering a redesign in the next 3-5 years so you’d better just live with it, like it or not. I don;t see folks posting in the other sections about how noisy, harshly suspended, unreliable, leaky or uncomfortable the “Land Rover” was.
It would be nice for those considering helping to keep JLR in business by buying a new car from them and coming to this forum don’t get put off because then there will be nothing for any LR enthusiasts regardless of which model it is and I have heard the same things repeatEd ad infinitum about Discovery 1, Discovery 3, Freelander, L322 FFRR, RRS, Evoque and Discovery 5 over the years and it’s all starting to sound rather like the gramophone needle has got stuck............ just get over it and let this part of the forum return to being a discussion of problems and fixes, tips and hints for L663 Defender users. We hear you that it doesn’t look like the old Defender. old Defender has been killed off, it reached the end of the line and fell off it, it is dead, nailed to the perch, gone and it isn’t going to come back in the form you would like it to. Even Grenadier is now starting to get flack for not looking enough like an old Land Rover..........

Well said!!!!! Thumbs Up Bow down

LOL, yes, it's the trucks fault!

Listen, haters gonna hate. That is ok. It's unfortunate that people, who don't even own the new Defender, have to whine about it over and over. We get it. You don't like it. That is ok. Opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one (and is entitled to one). 95%+ of the Automotive press and most people really like it. They like the modern design. They like the new technology. They like the rugged refinement.

Peoples irrational hate of the new vehicle is noted. You can keep whining about it, but nothing will change. Wait. One thing may change, if my new 110 proves reliable over the next 6 months, I will probably buy a new 90 to replace my second car!

Thank you Land Rover for a great machine!

Thumbs Up

So if I'm hearing you correctly. You'd only want people who like the model and are smitten with it to dare to utter a word, else in your opinion they are not welcome to even mention it?

Really, maybe you should take a closer look. Laughing

Basically you are saying, a great many people have views differing to yours. And you don't like the fact people express these views and you don't want to read or hear them? Is that the gist of it?

I think we all can agree that the new Defender's design is a piece of artwork, inside and out, coupled with modern technology and superior performance.

..this concludes only that you have no idea about either art or performance..

Listen, I think the new Defender is great. Not sure if you are old enough to drive, but I am guessing you don't own a new Defender, but like to badmouth it anyway. I don't own an old Defender but I don't go over the the old Defender forums and insult it. But if it makes you feel good, then go for it. If you are jealous or can't afford a new one, I can't do much to help. If you set up a gofundme, I might toss a few bucks your way. All of your anger over a car you don't even own is not good for you health. The stress is enough to make a persons hair fall out.

I think I will take a cruise in my new 110, a true work of art and high performance machine...the highest performance! Thumbs Up

I think the irony here is, every post you have made has been a slur, attack and insult on the old model or people who like it. Or even people you think like it or people you assume don't own a new model like yourself. Yet you have the audacity to claim you don't insult Rolling Eyes

You come across very childish.

The removable seat cushion and interchangability of driver/passenger seat cushion were a great idea in the old Defender and you would have thought would have been carried over to the new model. Seat cushion tears in new vehicles means the whole seat has to be changed. My work vehicle has started to show wear in the seat cushion side. When it splits the whole seat will need replacing as it is an MOT fail here. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

ChickenDrumstick, I have no problem with people who have actually driven it criticising the car, I agree with much of what you said in your post and in the video, some of it I don’t find with my own now getting on for 3 months old First Edition. EG I have not found any problem with a delay in acceleration when pulling out of junctions, after 3 Range Rover Sports and 2 Evoques that really did display the problem I find the pull away mapping of the engine in the new Defender works way way better than any of those cars, but then I tend to press the throttle gently, not stamping on it, as I learned that was the way to get the previous cars going without any hesitation.

One criticism I have of the new one is the lack of paddle shifters when off-road, they give way better gear control with your hands left on the steering wheel than having to take a hand of the wheel to force a sequential shift. Having run Evoques and an RRS off-road with them I really miss them on the Defender.

What I object to is the same people time and time again inferring that the car is useless/hopeless/unfit as a Defender replacement because it isn’t a simple redesign of the Classic Defender, we’ve known since 2011 that it would be a more luxurious, non-utilitarian vehicle. I have owned a TDi300 90 since 2001, I still own it and it is very good at being a utility off-road vehicle, the new one is very good at different things and competent at being an off-road vehicle but for sure it isn’t by any manner of description a utility vehicle. For my needs the new one suits me to a T apart from being a bit bigger than I need.

BTW when you had the problem with the engine limiting the power did you try pressing the button that disables the DSC, I suspect it was the DSC or the Rev limiter that was cutting the power. Did you try using the launch control that is there for just the situation that you found yourself in? I also find the selection of the Terrain Response programs hard to fathom out and unnecessarily convoluted, I have found, unlike previous TR equipped LR products I’ve owned, that I now don’t bother with the TR either in manual or in auto mode and just drive it in low box with HDC enabled/disabled as I need it, the setting up of TR is possibly one of the worst applications of what is otherwise a brilliant facility, what was wrong with a row of press buttons or a rotary selector? Why no Dynamic setting and why is what used to be called Highway mode now called “Comfort’ and I concur completely with your comments about once you have selected low range, there is no way for the uninitiated to see how to get back to high range too. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!
