@ Landymanstefan, Not really, it had had bits sprayed over here and there but not a proper job at all. As seems to be the case the front end of the chassis was better than the rear but it’s coming up good once it’s all painted it’ll be getting built hamber Clear wax all over it So it’s easier to spot if any corrosion starts again. Well the results look great!
I have a fairly transparent wax on my chassis and I’m just starting to see bits of corrosion poking through. I want to paint with some heavy duty paint for a more permanent solution but getting the old wax off is a nightmare. Any tips? |

I’ve been using a mixture of Nylon strip discs on an angle grinder and various wire wheels on a drill to get the main wax and muck off, then using the full por15 system, first you use their (quite strong) degreaser then wash the area off and dry (repeat as necessary) then the por15 metal prep (which I think converts rust and etches the metal) then wash and dry before painting so all the metal gets thoroughly cleaned and the paint sticks well. Awesome thanks i’ll look into it. I did a small area of my chassis with a scraper and a flap wheel in a drill but it kept getting so clogged it was a nightmare.

I found the same with sandpaper type discs, the nylon strip and clean discs don’t clog anywhere near as bad and the wire wheels can be wire brushed out if they clog at all. It is a horrible dirty job though, with dirt and rust flung at your face for hours and make sure you have a good supply of disposable gloves and cheap brushes if you use the por15. I ran out of gloves over one weekend and managed to burn my hand with using the degreaser because I stupidly was determined to keep going Ray

Well Ray, i have been passing this one for a few weeks now and it had a cover on until we had the strong winds and the cover came off, so i took a quick pic this morning for you as i think it needs your magic touch . . . . .

Looks like it fully stripped out that one. The tailgate will go missing if anyone sees it because they’re worth a bit and easy to take off (just like a defender bonnet really) tow it up to mine for me and I’ll get on with it Ray
