They should try it again after they have racked up 3000 miles. In my previous modern Land Rovers there seems to be two steps in the “running in” program - the effect was most noticeable in the mpg figures where there was a noticeable increase in mpg/ reduction in consumption around 2000 miles and again at 3000 miles and it was the same from my 2010 FFRR through 2 x Evoque 2.2lt TD’s and my last RRS SDv6. The one difference I have with the Defender is that all the foregoing cars were delivered in West London and motorway cruised almost 450 miles home sat on the motorway on the cruise control at 70, the new car was delivered locally. Must say that going by the trip computer set on auto re-set for each trip shows very encouraging fuel ecomony, certainly the trip averages are consistently better than the WLTP consumption number in the LR data.
I’ve two reservations though, in the last ten years LR’s trip computers have been rather optimistic with the fuel consumption number and since 12 June I’ve only driven 260 miles in it and 20 miles in my Tdi 300 due to travel restrictions in Scotland. I’m, as usual with all my cars, logging my brim to brim fuel figures in the Fuelly.com website Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

The App they are using must have been invented by VW. That Defender did not attain 0-60mph in 6.6 secs, if you measure the length of time (on a watch or similar) it took to reach 60mph it's in the region of 10-11 secs.

I just watched that, to be fair 6.6 seconds to 60 would be fairly quick in a large bus.

However timing in on a stopwatch it makes it on 10.11 seconds? which actually doesn't seem that good? 4wd, 300bhp.?

I try the different models in one of my wifes car, a Mini clubman Cooper S remapped, with eco, normal, sport

Driving in each mode normally there is a huge difference on how it drives, feels, accelerates. However even in Green mode if you plant your foot to the floor the computers seem say OK you want to override the setting and the little car change down a few cogs and just goes.... so maybe irrespective of mode if you kick down it will override?

The only thing that I think Eco does in the Defender is make it change to higher gears even earlier than it does in “normal” - TBH in a 2.3tonne brick it seems a bit pointless. It probably gets some “green points” somewhere. One trip off-road in low ratio and you can forget any “eco-ness” in any modern Land Rover product.
In my last car switching to eco meant no air con/climate control, no heated seats, no heated screens, reduced acceleration and much more vicious regenerative braking but it was a PHEV where electric range is important but I never used the function in two years, I prefer un-misted up windows and some warmth/cooling when I drive. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Mmmm... the Gladiator seemed to make it with less wheelslip.

All the videos showing any form of off road driving, albeit tyre choice may not be perfect, appear to show too much wheelspin for my liking. The idea that a locked differential is not actually locked but has various degrees of slip is not what I'd expect in the halo off road model.

Too much wheel spin and wheels lifting off the ground makes it look like hard work.

The Jeeps on the other hand, breeze through no problem, without all the unnecessary electronic assistance. Very Happy

Not sure if all the Jeeps in the video will have "proper" locking front and rear diffs and front anti-roll bar disconnect, but the Gladiator should have.
I much prefer Jeep's approach on diff lock control. On or Off. Let the driver decide based on conditions and need.

At the risk of repeating myself, this setup works Whistle

After watching this video I was impressed. Keeping in mind this is a straight out of the box un modified vehicle.

There is a fair amount of wheel slip in several places here, however this type of terrain is extremely difficult to maintain traction. The loose dirt is like ball bearings under foot, and throw in the un evenness and it's not an easy climb at all. Especially at the 7:10 mark

Hard to figure out what PSI he would be running there as they are a low profile tire. I would think they would be easy to pinch if you were to go too low. Normally 12-15ish would be about right, but that would be with a more traditional taller sidewall.

Closer to normal street pressure would make that run impossible. it's a Landrover thing...

I stand corrected, just saw the mention of a 2" lift in the video comments. Also he's planning on fitting 34" tires shortly.. will be interesting! it's a Landrover thing...
