Brake question TD5 Defender
The brakes work fine on my 110 TD5
ABS works OK
However if you press the pedal quickly it feels firm. But if you press the pedal slowly it sinks down more, although the brakes still work fine.
What could be causing this, could it be air in the system? Or something needing replacement. The discs and pads were replaced recently, l don’t know if the garage opened up the braking system.

Will happen on any car.

Hard to explain in proper terms. Basically "priming" the system and filling everything quickly then adding more fore it falls back.

Imagine a bucket with a hole in it. Slowly poor water in and the water will slowly flow out. Quickly tip buckets in and it will stay full for a short period.

Im sure someone else can explain it properly Laughing Instagram @defender_ventures

OK thanks that’s one thing l don’t have to do then.

I have since searched online and found other people asking about the same thing back when the vehicles were new!

TD5 Brake Pedal
My Td5 has ABS and I have always thought the Brake pedal is less positive than non ABS versions,

As you say, the brakes are definitely there but they do need a firmer shove than non ABS in my experience.

Chris

Check all of your wheel bearings. Excessive 'pump up' to get the bite point right can sometimes be the first pump centring the disc in the caliper, taking up slack in the bearing, second pump is normal aligned engagement.

Last time I ignored this I got home in my off road hack with a bearing that had an inner race friction welded to the stub shaft and the caliper in flames. Insta: @thebenjordan4x4
