It could be that Bowler’s developement and engineering prowess is just right to develope a very low volume vehicle like all the special low volume versions of the old Defender like crew cab pickups, vans, 2 seater pickups, 130’s and 110 utilities at a premium price of course for being badged Land Rover - Engineed by Bowler............. sort of a Carmichael for. 21st Century.......
Certainly judging from a lot of posts on here there is a small But vocal demand for basic versions like pickups etc. that Maybe JLR would like to retain in their customer base, problem is would they also pay the premium to have a minute volume special vehicle? Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

The platform is one that was developed by Bowler (pre LR take over) It was designed for military use... Easily extended or shortened for different vehicles... Who knows what JLR are thinkig of doing with it... But my guess would be that they are going to stick a New Discovery.... Sorry Defender body style on top of it and go rally raiding... Desperately trying to give the new Discovery... Sorry Defender... Some street cred.... It doesn't matter how bad it is, It can always get worse...

Thanks Thumbs Up

So an official Bowler photo with the strap line: "The start of a new project".

It looks like they have been given one of the pre-production vehicles, I think I can just make out the disguise cladding on the bonnet.

Is the brace across the turrets in the engine bay standard?

I think military use was just one of may intended markets for the platform.

The Bowler Bulldog was the first vehicle utilising CSP but with an intended range of applications including on road, off road, emergency response, defence and protection, filming, utility and exploration.

If the plan is to go rally Raiding with the new Defender placed on a CSP, then I'm wondering how the numbers stack up.

On the basis of this:

"The upshot is that the Bulldog touts a torsional stiffness four times that of a standard Defender – and two-thirds of the way to matching a Bugatti EB110, amazingly – but weighs 200kg less."
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/bowle...019-review

The new Defender is already 3 times stiffer.

An additional thought:

JLR move away from a chassis/separate body form saying they can create a much better, stronger, stiffer vehicle with a unibody. Spend many, many millions developing it, many millions advertising and marketing it as better, tougher, more competent than anything they have built before. A true halo vehicle; and then when they want that vehicle to actually do something really hard, like the Dakar, they put it back on a chassis?

Are they really that messed up? It would be a case of shooting themselves in both feet regarding the raison d'etre for the basis of the new Defender.

If they want to go Rally Raiding with the new Defender, why not just enter one of the production classes?

Remember bowler made all the 110s for the last bond film so maybe this is one of the current bond film ones 🤷🏼‍♂️

I didn't know Bowler had anything to do with the Bond new Defenders?

I thought all the Bond ones were 110?

All were 110s but they could be doing a range inspired by the Bond Defenders

I think it broke down and they're fixing it. JLR couldn't as McGovern has created a company ethos that thinks they just make swoopy urban SUVs, so have no idea why it's not behaving like a proper 4x4. They'll then make the necessary upgrade parts, (that should have been included from the start when making a robust multi-platform vehicle, rather than a glorified school-runner), and sell them for a price that can only be considered cheeky. I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

From another video review, the 6 pot petrol has the brace:

I don't think that qualifies as a brace, it's just a bracket to hold up the front of the plastic bits in front of the windscreen.

To qualify as a brace it would have to have substance.

Yeah. To weedy and thin to be a real brace even for a light car. Especially with the weight of a Defender. No way.
