Acoustic Mats vs Trad Sound Proofing with Carpet ?
I'm about to start my interior overhaul

What are people thoughts and experiences when it comes to soundproofing and re-carpeting?

This seems like a fairly low effort solution so it's tempting...

That's the wright matting system. I have used it in 4 vehicles. Really like the simplicity and closed cell. Its clean, functional and hard wearing. It reduces noise but prob not as much as butyl sheets and foam/carpet. Cheers

I can’t comment on the effectiveness of the product you’ve suggested above but I’ve recently added Dynamat Extreme and the Dynaliner to the rear of my 110 and it’s made a HUGE difference.

My plan will be to eventually do the front part of the cabin but waiting to see some carpet options to put over the rear before I take up the standard Factory rubber floor covering.

I have the Wright Offroad Mat system in the front of my 110- Made a big difference when we fitted it, its also hugely practical and easy to clean.

Its what they should have left the factory with.

Edit; if you want one of the Wright offroad systems- let me know and Ill pass on Drews Contact details so you can buy direc from him.

After that- the next biggest jump in terms of reducing sound was to cover the roof in closed cell foam.

We are just working on Version 2 of trying to make the 110 quieter, Im adding bits of sound deadening material strategically to places- we have gone for about 80% coverage under the rear seats, rear floor and wheelarches with a dynamat equivalent.

We have then added an 8mm layer of closed cell foam, then carpeted over some areas with automotive carpet and added a rubber mat over the floors where feet go.

I have just started adding some bits inside the doors- the internal framing has had some deadening added, and some additional foam which seems to make a big difference.

Dynamat extreme, it’s expensive, but the best. I also have a 3mm closed cell foam barrier over the top on the floor, sides, and roof. Cuts down noise, basically any flat interior panel, stick it on. Few tips, makes sure you get a roller and the surface you are sticking too is clean, or it will lift, especially on the roof sections.

Several places do pre cut areas, seat box, rear load deck, bonnet etc. If you want to do it in stages, suggest start from the rear and work forward, this way you can budget, but don’t buy the cheap stuff, it won’t stick properly, especially under extremes, heat and cold and will lift up, especially on the roof.

Also, use a closed cell foam barrier, this absorbs sound, use it on the roof and gearbox tunnel, 6mm, inside the door cards 3mm.

Silentcoat is a generally cheaper alternative to Dynamat and is essentially the same product. Have a look for the Sound Deadening Shop on eBay for some decent bundle deals.

I've used this product combined with generic 6mm foam on two vehicles now and been very pleased with the results. Darren

Thumbs Up What Darren said - I used silentcoat through my 90 - probably spent about £180, the closed cell foam is cheap as chips.

how does dynamat or any sound deadening react with any leaks? (Thinking more footwell if they get damp and trap that moisture making things corrosion prone?)

Fix the leaks first, it sticks, water ingress is not good, and it will lift up.

Thanks.

Car currently has carpet rear and rubber matting up front - and really is not overly loud. However, I did notice engine noise almost from the bulkhead. Have you fitted any under bonnet dynamat and if so, huge difference?
