One of the UK's biggest motor insurance companies, Admiral, is giving a £25 refund to customers as cars and vans sit idle in the coronavirus pandemic.
The payment will be paid automatically to anyone with a car or van insurance policy with Admiral on 20 April. The company said it was a "thank you" to customers for staying at home, but also reflected the lower level of claims, benefiting its profits. Other insurers are under pressure to follow suit. We have a multi-car policy with them - effectively taken out when the kids started driving and they run a black box system for new drivers with discounts based on their driving style over a three month assessment period.
In addition, having a multi-car policy allows you to nominate the highest risk vehicle as ‘lead’ vehicle, thereby attracting max discount - the first time we did this, it meant that Niki’s car was effectively free to insure! Back to their refund - to put it into perspective, they are actually returning a total of £110 million to clients. Impressive, but what really got my attention is the following: They are creating a fund of £4m to help charities and those in need in South Wales (as their home base) as a result of Covid-19 Additionally, all staff are on full pay and none have been furloughed... Wow, just wow... |

Late night brain exercise for me: If £25 is 20% of your monthly premium then your annual premium is £1,500! If that is for one vehicle then it sounds like a lot unless you have been a naughty boy in the past or driving something Imcan only dream about . |

2 vehicles, clean license, a land rover and a skoda estate..... I would blame my other halfs lack of driving experience, but even that is only a small part of the premium! Under 30, which seems to be the main issue! |

Youth is not all it is cracked up to be. We older folks can just have a wry smile. I think you should get £25 per vehicle so £50 will at least buy a few beers when we are all permitted to go to the pub again. |

Listening to the news tonight with a possible 12 more months of social distancing were all going to need some sort of refund as none of us will be going anywhere soon 2010 XS USW

More importantly than money they *must* do something to avoid the situation of thousands of people essentially trapped alone in their homes. Maybe lockdown isn't too bad with a family, but rather than an insurance refund I would rather be allowed to actually have a life? 2011 110 USW
