I imagine that in order to maximise the benefit of the manifolds you'd also have to port the heads to match the manifold. That should make an appreciable performance difference.

Its a fully John Eales built Griff 500 5.0L V8.
So, Off the top of my head work done includes; Fully blueprinted, Dynamically balanced, Cross bolted Later serpentine front end (inc improved oil pump), Stage 4 big valve ported & gas flowed heads, Fully machined trumpet base and inlet tracts (port matched), Custom high torque cam by JE Fully hand formed trumpet flares and now JE big bore cast manifolds (also gasket matched) and probably some I've missed! It originally had a full Janspeed system on it , but the mild steel headers didn't cope well with a life near the sea! That system was replaced by an off the shelf stainless affair in the early 2000's (not long before it was decommissioned). The generic stainless jobbie seriously hampered performance, being only (poorly) designed for a 3.5. Hopefully the system I'm building will allow it to breath, again, as it once did After the mandatory start up with only headers on (to check for exhaust gas leaks obviously ) I can certainly say that it revs much more freely than it did with just the generic stainless headers on 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

Small update today, I forgot to take pictures when it was fully welded, but hopefully over the weekend I'll get the system close to finished

Did you discuss your plans to have no X/Y merge piece with John E when you bought the engine?

Thanks Paul
The original conversion was done in the late 90s so no, not at the time. If unbalanced pipes don't suit it then I can very easily fit a H pipe (I'm not keen on the sound of X pipes and apparently H pipes are better for low down torque ) 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

Took the Range Rover for a drive around the site today (with the exhaust finished apart from the rear silencers).
The conclusion from this highly scientific experiment is that two fold. Firstly, it sounds simply sublime - just what I'd hoped for. Secondly, traction (on an unsealed road) is now a problem up to about 60mph So all in all, a very satisfying job so far! When I've got the silencers fitted and linked up I'll do full photos and a video 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

Mine now spins all 4 very easily around the site, it didn't before! Not scientific I know but it must be putting more power down to do that. The viscous centre diff in the RRC is 60/40 power split to the rear believe and also effectively limited slip as the diff locks when there is wheel spin front or rear 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

It will be, i remember the SPi to MPi days, the lads used to convert the SPi cars to MPi so they could get more power etc. ECU, injection system and exhaust etc swop over.
Anyway when i bought my GTA 16v SPI, the owner looked into MPi converting the car, but couldnt really get the earlier bits. But fitted the MPI manifold and he found that it made a hell of a difference over the SPI stuff, He told me it could have been pushing 100+ bhp, with the MPi manifold. They were about 90 bhp with the spi manifold on. I finished the conversion but that's another story So a good decent exhaust really makes the difference My HDI has a Power flow system on and that opened the car up. Picture of the finished exhaust, the only thing left to do is the tips. I'm thinking simple 3 inch rolled out tips
