Its rust and ending up in the hands of people who don't want to maintain them properly, defenders seem to differ and people spend the time/money to keep them serviced.
RRC front inner wings and rear chassis/tailgate nearly always rot, ive got a blue 1989 3.5 with a great back but both front inner wings are like weetabix and a turquoise one vice versa. 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW 1956 Series 1 Hard-top 1958 Series 1 Soft-top |

20 years ago, my dad had a 3 door one, and I tell you what if he had kept it, it would have been worth a mint now!
I think the wrong crowd ended up going after these, the upper class people who were all money and didn't really give a monkeys. which is a shame! Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

Yeah my dad bought a brand new 300tdi disco xs to replace his left hand drive range rover when we moved back from Germany. He got rid after 6 months and bought the range rover I'm restoring 20 years later

when I rebuilt my RRC years ago someone had compiled a list of parts common to both the RR and the Defender, it was very useful as the Defender listed parts were about half the cost of the same part but listed as RR. This may not be the case now with so many parts suppliers but if buying genuine LR parts back then it made quite a difference.

Good to know
I'll be using genuine parts wherever possible unless the aftermarket product is superior. I should probably also mention at this point that it's going to be a restomod - I can't have it standard! 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |
