70,000 mile service today and also fitted SS door bolts and cross member bolts as the others were starting to rust. Followed it up with a bloody good clean as if was filthy! When I had the rear prop shaft off I noticed loads of slop in the rear drive members again. These were genuine LR ones and have only done 15k. I’m thinking of 1 piece drive shafts instead.
The bloody cat has taken to sleeping here. No idea why, she has a perfectly good bed and it’s not exactly safe! Click image to enlarge |

New one piece half shafts fitted today. Also repaired the snapped drive member bolt. I can’t believe how worn the ones that came out were. They were genuine LR and had done about 12,000 miles and were a mess. It gets plenty of off road use, but at that rate they are essentially a wear part. Already impressed by the improvement in drive line slop.

Took the plunge and painted the NAS step in Hycote bed liner as the buzzweld was already wearing though from the dogs claws. Still not sure how I feel about it, although I do like the stainless fixings from YRM (except the outer bolts which for reason aren’t in the kit ) and I got hold of some SS screws for the step chequer plate as well.
Textured step next to gloss cross member: not sure it looks right but it’s function over form. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

It looks okay to me, nearly the same colour as the mud flaps, so all good 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Overhauled the fire and ice side steps. Treated the rust, gave it a bit of paint and finished the brushed steel bits with the rest of the bed liner. Quite pleased with them. Also cleaned up and painted the window blocks. They turned out rubbish so hopefully Huttopia has some left!!
