Hi there!
Some recomendations for a Winch for the Defender SW 110? Installations tips? We will not use so much, just in some ocasions in my wife's work trips to the forest (quite muddy in winter) or in the farm as a tool. Just an idea possibly to be developed in the next months (depending of the funds) Thanks! 100 % agreed, Warn all the way. if it is going to rarely be used, its more of a reason to have Warn - so reliable it's always there, even when not often used. We also have 9.5ti's, no problems from any of them, also got the dynaline and aluminum fairleads. Great bit of kit!

I am going for a Superwinch Husky (have one ready to fit) as they are bulletproof. Only down sides are the price and you do have to give it a working every couple of months- but hey, at least if you get stuck you know it is going to work.

Have been running an XP for yonks. Built like a tank, never failed and will pull 2 Landies out of a mud hole with one tied to the other.
Nice thing with the XP is the seperate winch electronics box, which you can relocate anywhere on the vehicle, therefore reducing the winch profile. It also means that if something happens with the electronics box, you an just take it off and take it apart without having to take the whole winch out. You can even keep a spare handy!! I not only moved the box to the inside of the engine bay, well up high under the wing, but also detached the actual part where the remote plugs in and extended the wires. That way you can mount that bit anywhere you want, even inside the vehicle should you desire!! My plug is mounted on the panel that holds the headlights in place. Would DEFINITELY recommend the XP. It also has the extra grunt (6hp, rather than the usual 4.6hp). I would also say, get a winch for what you need. Dont go throwing money away on a serious bit of kit like an XP or any other comp winch unless you really need it. For a lot less money, but actually made by Warn, you can get the Tabor 9k, which is an excellent piece of kit for half the price. Same parts etc and assembled and even comes out of the Warn factory!! Has slightly thinner walls (on the metal bits), but that is not really a problem. Dont get too hung up on the name thing. Dont get me wrong, Warn are excellent, but for the odd bit of use now and again, you really wont notice any difference. Huskys are good, but a lot slower, but they will pull a house out the ground and will NEVER go wrong. Hydraulic is good for a winch that you will use everyday, but for general LR use, get an electric one. Some of the superwinch gear is really good too, but dont bother with Britpart. T-Max are ok, but of the three, Superwinch would get my vote. Warn Ti, Si etc are good, but are really designed for heavy use where the thermometric kit etc will actually operate, but I doubt for what you describe you will need it. To summarise, for the use you have described, I think the Powerplant would be overkill as you dont seem to need the functionality of a compressor as well, (would be very handy on an expedition or working vehicle though!!), so I would recommend something like the Tabor 9k which will be very sufficient and will give you many years of trouble free use. One of the reasons that companies dont often recommend them or stock them is because the mark-up is not as high, so they dont make as much profit. Devon 4x4 stock the Tabor and at a good price and I highly recommend their service. Best of luck in your decision. Landy nut |

Well 9.5 XP looks a little bit expensive here in Chile (almost US$2,000 compared the US$1,000 in USA) So, looks like Tabor will be a good decisión (if it si reliable) any experience with it?
