Peston got his break by discovering the Bank melt downs and credit crunch. Up until then he was just another faceless reporter who worked for the BBC. He then got elevated up to heady heights through promotion to Business Editor. Then took the money and ran to ITV (I can't blame him for that!)
I was not unhappy when he moved to ITV as I don't watch ITV News very much. As you may realise from previous posts, I have a big issue with Journalists, especially Journalists whose egos become larger than the stories. Their job is to report. Instead they seem that they have to give their opinions which sadly, I am not interested in. I just need facts. You are not the only one Discomog. My Father worked in Newspapers all his life (a compositor not a journalist) and he is a media junkie. He gave up reading newspapers years ago as the reporting was so poor and there were so many mistakes. He watches Sky News as a default. Even he is getting fed up with rude, incompetent, numpty journalists asked inane questions to experts that they know they cant answer. "When is the lock down going to be lifted?" How long is the piece of string? What a waste of breathe. Maybe they would be better interviewing Mystic Meg? They are also very good at asking questions which have just been answered by the experts. Just plainly embarrassing. |

At the time, I felt Robert Peston's wholly pessimistic reporting actually contributed to the financial crash in 2008.
He's been known as 'Roger Doom' in our household ever since. |

Same as Pears Moron.... he asks about 10 questions in a row, then when the other person starts to answer you can see him getting all hot under the collar because it's not him talking, so he just interrupts... such a cockwomble.

I was saying the same to a mate who is a serious journo at the Telegraph. He reckoned Channel 4 news is the best for TV news journalism. After watching I have to agree. He also said they have nicknamed the daily Government Covid briefing Jackanory, which tickled me. WARNING. This post may contain sarcasm. |

Heartening to see other countries coming to our aid. Germany flying stranded Brits home and donating 60 ventilators. Turkey sending us 250,000 items of PPE. WARNING.

The USA has sent 200 Ventilators to London as well, as well as I believe 4 experts from the US to the Hospital Boris has been staying in. This was said about a week ago on Trumps speech, I think one of them was from Johnson & Johnson I believe.
No mention of this from the media, of which on Yougov survey's polling I believe a recent poll showed a -26% or similar figure of popularity for the media and journalist sector. No surprise there, they've done little bar posting scare stories and often fake news as usual. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |

I read Trump said he would send 200 ventilators, which is extremely kind seeing as the US also so short of them. They themselves have received ventilator donations from Russia and China. Hopefully they will arrive soon.
I think Trump's offer of untested experimental malaria drugs and experts was politely declined. WARNING. This post may contain sarcasm. |

Russia gave equipment to the US I believe too, as well as good wishes to our PM.
Beggars belief that China gave out faulty and contaminated testing kits.. I don’t believe a word of anything China says either. They have been trying for years to undercut the economy of many many western counties around the world, as well as being a big polluter of very very toxic substances. Anyone else think the same? ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |

I think the faulty kits China sent were replaced with working ones. They also sent us at least 300 ventilators.
As for trusting them? Not a chance. We know that China will overtake the US as the world's global power in the future but I'm sure they will use this opportunity to bring forward the timetable. Saying that, we in the West have gone out of our way to enable them by outsourcing our manufacturing, giving them huge government contracts and selling off our companies to them. WARNING. I think we should just ignore China for now. Their numbers and attitudes are simply not credible.
We are all living the reality in Europe (and ex-Europe) and our scientists, thank God, are generally not politically motivated or silenced. I was amazed at a press conference recently when a journalist (?) said that doctors were rationing oxygen and asked Hancock what the government were doing about it. His answer was exhaustive...problem is that it was just about the increase in the number of tests??? No-one picked it up I honestly thought British politics was better than in the US - times of crisis show these things. Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Thing is though where was the so called World Health Organisation?
Where was the warnings? Trump mentioned this and also stopped direct travel from China back in January. But of course air travel being what it is, people went country to country instead. Politicians aren’t health experts after all so where are they exactly in the international bodies? Nowhere it seems this time. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |
