Morning all. I think most of us by now understand the need to wash our hands, but just in case you haven’t yet grasped the importance, here’s a German health advisory spelling it out. Literally translated this says: ‘Wash your hands as if you’ve just chopped chillis and are going off to masterbate’. Brilliant Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Once we get over this virus, and we finally get back to some form of normality, whatever that may be, will this alter your outlook on life? Will this change the way we all live, or will we just forget about it all and slip back into our old ways and carry on as if nothing had happened?

I was thinking about the Foot and Mouth epidemic where the countryside was locked down. I remember then feeling everything will change now, but it somehow didn’t. And we all forgot and went back to how we all were.

After foot and mouth the most astonishing change was the huge increase in wildlife . Species thought to have abandoned areas , came back . I remember reading a lot of articles on it at the time .
After a walk on the coastal footpath , the change was evident , most notably we had peregrines on the cliff tops again !

I think the same thing will happen , with public areas closing down . They haven’t shut footpaths yet but when they do the change will be vast , just like foot and mouth.
The Coronavirus is a terrible thing but their are some opportunities to change the way we live.

Rashers, maybe people will look at how quickly the wheels have come off and consider saving some rainy day money. If my parents generation didn’t have the cash to buy something they didn’t. Now it is incredibly easy to get credit for anything and everything. I wonder how many PCP cars will be dumped on forecourts and keys handed back over the next few months?

So perhaps there will be a more measured approach once all of this has blown out, but perhaps not. If you’ve still got BBQs and bike rides and so on happening it doesn’t appear that even the most basic message can get through, let alone a fundamental change in spending habits.

I’ve seen quite a few local networks spring up to make sure that those living alone are looked after and can get provisions. A number of us will be doing door drops as and when, whilst others make calls and check folk are ok. Hopefully that spirit will persist beyond this period.

Of all the daft WhatsApp chat over the last couple of weeks one stood out- whilst previous generations went to war, all we are asking is for you to stay at home and watch Netflix etc, you can do this 😂

An important reminder to ignore fake news and only follow medical advice from NHS, WHO etc.

Trump is already working to get the USA economy back on stream, no doubt that is risky business for now, but if it doesn’t happen in two weeks, it will happen a bit later anyway. China economic machine is starting up again too. Very simply, at various points in the coming months, the rest of the world will follow suit, and the rat race will continue as never before.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I hope you're right Eric, but with increasing infections everywhere, I'm not convinced, and until infections/deaths start to show a downward trend, we are in trouble I think. Still going up in Aussie, but the Govt is doing a good job. How are you going with the infection rate in your Country?

I am worried too, Pickles.

If there is a laxity in the isolation plans over the coming short weeks, we will be back on the trajectory of a few weeks ago before we know where we are. Folk have short memories and, if nothing's happening, they'll assume it's 'all lovely in the garden' again.

There were people gathering in a crowd for a barbie here in the UK yesterday who had to be physically dispersed by the police! Once/if people start dying in the thousands and every family's affected, there will be notice taken, but that's too late then to alter the outcome. I am never without wonder at the magnitude of some of our fellow human beings' stupidity.

Looking back at H1N1 in 2009, it could have all turned-out very similarly then of course - but we got away with it. I don't think we'll be as lucky this time.

Obscurely this song keeps coming to mind in the nice weather we are having.

Next week when the weather isn’t so good it will be this.

well, I don't want to be at work. but until the government shuts the construction industry down I am.

family is safe as we have outdoor space and do not need to leave. so its lots of playing with diggers and dumpers for the wife and kids whilst I am at work.
at least the wife is willing to drive a digger and dumper. proper bird!
