Thought about greasing the prop shaft this morning then decided the time could be be better spent working on the Lan' rover 😏

Fitted my snow cowl in time for summer

Then swapped out a mirror arm that's been niggling me since I've owned this defender. The paint has bubbled up so replaced with a better second hand one

Mine was less than what I did today, rather what I did over 4 days. I had my motorbike in storage which needed to be moved (was going to do it in the summer, but with the threat of a lockdown, it needed moving asap, and I also had to pick up the wifes daughter from University as they were being told to go home. Only problem is the distances, lol

This was before I picked the trailer up, just gave it a quick wash

Drove 16 hours, 1250 kms then spent a day loading the trailer and Defender in Salmon Arm, BC then headed to Edmonton over the Rockies.... This was one of the avalanche tunnels that wasn't quite wide enough, lol

It was my first real long day in the 90, and surprising comfortable.
Lots of stares, comments at fuel stops and people taking pics.
They don't get many Defenders in these parts, lol

I do, I imported it from the UK last year.
The Defenders over here are either wrecks or crazily priced.
Took me a while to find one with in very good nick, and no problem driving with the wheel on the right side either.

The beauty of registering a vehicle in Alberta is that there is no legal requirement to have a plate on the front, so the 04 reg stays on, lol (Still got it on the back too, probably not supposed to have that there but not been stopped yet either. I'll just give them my thickest Yorkshire accent, they'll not have a clue what I'm saying, lol

Brings back fond memories of a similar trip I did back in January 2000. Wainwright to Hinton, then a winter warfare exercise, before returning via Banff, Canmore and Calgary. The route from Wainwright to Hinton is approx 500km, but we had to travel at the speed of the slowest vehicle in the convoy, approx 50km/h. I was the packet commander, but was in a pre-wolf, canvas 110 FFR. Apparently with a winter pack added (Basically the up-rated heater, little else). It took us, including obligatory stops for driver-breaks, somewhere in the region of 16hrs. We left in the dark, arrived in the dark and wore full Arctic kit the whole way. And ear defenders because the noise was unbelievable. A very, very long day, but what beautiful scenery. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Revamped a spare set of standard surrounds and grill.

The Raptor has had a few days to go off so got them on the front.

I'm happy with the finish, in reality it doesn't look as obvious as it does in these shots. Should keep it looking smart anyway Very Happy I didn't go too roughly textured so it's easier to clean.

I really like that and have a spare set of genuine surrounds and grill, all painted silver - so what prep is required and how did you spray to minimise the texture? Not looking for perfection, just a decent and semi durable finish Thumbs Up Rob

Hi CarMan,

That's exactly what I wanted, a decent finish that I don't have to keep replenshing every 6 weeks or so. Not for everyone but I like it. I did my side steps a year ago, including rust proofing inside them in the same way and they look as good as the day I did them.

Plastic is a bit different to metal though, it needs to be very, very clean and a promoter added first.

I sanded them back, including the edges and a little overlap around the back.

Thoroughly cleaned several times with water based solvent (sory I cant remember what brand as I have discarded the tub) and finished with contact cleaner - not sure if this was entirely neccessary!

Two coats of Upol or Raptor Adhesion promoter.

Two coats of Rator 2K sprayed at about 20cm. If you spary from a little further away and lighter coats it gives a slightly finer more grity texture.

Left for a few days to cure.

Hopefully they should be OK as there is no flex on them once fitted. If you don't want it to rattle due to poor LR fit, see my post above about adding some heat shrink to the 4 little tabs at the top, it holds it firm with no rattle - love it.
