There's lots of speculation on the 'net around the circumstances that caused the chassis to bend. Excessive speed or jumping with the rented trailer attached, incorrectly modded suspension, incorrect length shock absorbers bottoming out.
But the best comment I read was:

At the end of the day, sometimes you just shouldn't do dumb sh!t.

Decent article on the subject from Oz:

Strange that it mentions Type JK with manufacture between July & December 2019.
JK production stopped in April 2018.
Still worrying though.

ANCAP has scored the Gladiator 4X4 ute just 3 out of 5
Not great scores overall but ignoring the elements of the score related to safety assist and added features, there are some poor engineering issues highlighted.

The pole oblique score of 0 out of 8 is a standout Shocked or it is at least from the Oz mag report. Follow the link to the actual test report and it gets zerp because "the oblique pole test was not conducted...". How does that work!

"“The structural issues we saw with the originally-tested Wrangler also apply to the Gladiator including A-pillar and cross-facia beam failure, footwell intrusion, high seatbelt loads and excessive pedal movement. These remain an increased risk for occupants,” ANCAP Director – Communications & Advocacy, Rhianne Robson said."
