Makes me laugh when mags like Land Rover Monthly go on about the ‘skilled workers’ on the lines at Land Rover.......did they employ a team of apes to fabricate Defenders? From personal experience and from what I’ve read on forums I think they must just have worked on Friday afternoons and not the rest of the week. It’s disgusting to think that the premise must have been ‘its out of sight so no one will notice the bodge’.
Saying that, years ago a cousin of mine worked in the Porsche factory in Stuttgart. They were converting lh drive cars to rh drive for the uk market. The handbrake had to be moved to suit rh drive so they were cutting out the tunnel, swapping the pieces and welding up. Same for the pedal cut outs. Everything was disguised using mastic (the sh*t gun as my cousin called it) then painted over and carpeted. So maybe bodges aren’t confined to Land Rover only.

These days there should be very little bodged, we forget that the 'manufacturers' actually manufacture very little if nothing, they assemble parts from other manufacturers to create a vehicle, chassis and axle cases GKN, engine Ford, gearbox Getrag, lights Lucas etc.

Don 't know which brand of muppets did the bulkheads though.........

I accept the now old Defender was inperfect and virtually hand built which to me is part of the appeal, however that is bad on a structural part that should be of a reasonably consistent standard.

I wonder who made the bulkhead at that time?
