More politely than I'd put it but yeah. Londoners get all the transport options they need because they are the cash cows that create wealth and subsidise the rest of the country. I'm not saying it's fair but that's the reality. WARNING.

Personally i can’t understand the obsession with electric vehicles, surely a switch to hydrogen fuel would be far easier, its easy to make hydrogen and as quick to refill as petrol or diesel. The amount of work needed to produce the amount of extra electric needed to charge these vehicles all over the country would be unthinkable. Not to mention the enviromental impaxt it would have, and after all, isn’t that the issue we’re trying to solve?? 2006 TD5110 station wagon

The problem with Hydrogen is safe storage and handling, it is much much more difficult (expensive) to handle safely than petrol, diesel or LPG. And you still need a tonne of electric to make it. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I agree with the above but you won’t need a “ton of electric” in every town, village, and city all over the uk. It can be made in specified locations and distributed accordingly, much like we do now with petrol and diesel. 2006 TD5110 station wagon

It's likely, if we moved to a Hydrogen economy that fuel wouldn't be created centrally and distributed on a large scale by pipe or tanker, at least to begin with. The difficulties with that centralised approach, like we have now for natural gas or petrol, are not easily overcome. The obvious solution would be to create the hydrogen locally, but then you have the same problems with the electric network as with electric cars. I think on balance it is cheaper to upgrade our electric network to cope with electric cars than to install a hydrogen infrastructure. That is what is driving us in that direction.
Maybe electric vehicles will be a dead end (I hope), and there will be later move to Hydrogen when technology improves to make safe and easy distribution and use more viable. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

The statement he made has as much truth in it as his ability to think beyond the borders of London.

I’ve just returned home from a holiday in the Cayman Islands. It’s a British Overseas Territory. The whole of the islands electricity is produced by a vast array of diesel powered generators!
Just sayin’ |
