I really did try to watch that video, but after a minute and a half I was falling asleep.

If the new vehicle did anything we weren't doing with an old 80" trials vehicle in the 1970's, please direct me to that point in the vid, and I'll take a look.

I have to confess that I am still confused as to what exact niche this vehicle is trying to fill.

The target market seems to be Discovery-owning tarmac drivers, yet the publicity seems to be about its "rugged offroading" capabilities.

Surely JLR marketing should be showing videos of a "cool "guy driving smoothly and comfortably up a motorway, whilst playing with the on-board toys and infotainment system?

Meanwhile his wife is reversing impeccably up the front drive, using the all round cameras to avoid the Mercedes parked next to it, whilst visibly jealous neighbours are looking on admiringly?

I suspect that driving over a series of dirt mounds is not what most potential buyers will be thinking of.

Or maybe it's just me.... Confused

Well, thats 13 minutes of my life I won't get back.

Im sure that the new Defender is going to be capable as are most Land Rovers, but that doesn't mean that the new Defender is a direct replacement for the old. Our defenders are practical, unfussy, driven by people who own the land and work the land. Cricky, there was even a picture of Prince William in a green Defender at Sandringham last week. And for me, thats the issue. LR have probably made the new Defender capable but it doesn't retain the spirit. Sadly, now only purchased by those who own the land. Would i consider buying one? yes potentially. Would it be a replacement for my two Defenders. No, that simply wouldn't happen. I wish LR well with it, but alas, i am not their target market. I am now looking at other potential cars and manufacturers. Underwhelming. Don't think I'll bother, put the money back under the mattress.

I really dislike the rear end, and I've just figured out it's because it looks identical to when you know a toddler's filled their nappy Laughing

To be fair (& I'm no advocate for the new one), it's probably just as capable off road as a 1970s, whilst doing everything else better.

(Looks, character, bolt-onability, mend-with-a-hammerability excluded, but most new car buyers don't give a Censored about those last two.)

This afternoon at our local dealer. Nice car overall, but inside and outside too many glossy plastic parts. First customer deliveries here will be in March. They also said that even if this one here still is marked as a prototype vehicle, virtually nothing will change anymore.
Only thing I did with my dealer while I was there today was make an appointment for a complete fluids change and grease job for the SVX in the next few weeks. Whistle

Eric .......Was the new defender delivered to the dealer in the trailer being towed by the old defender ??

Whistle

Yep, towed by that nice grey Adventure edition... Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I'm waiting for an equivalent of my USW, so 5 seats and a load space, then I'd buy one.

I hope those air cylinders are bolted down, otherwise it could get quite exciting if there is an emergency stop!!

By the way, are they fitted to all the new Defenders as a back up in case the air suspension compressor packs up?
I only ask because our early MMYY Disco 3 went through 3 compressors whilst under warranty Big Cry
