Not sure I would want to be launching a Defender with no BEV or Hydrogen option and the lack of forward planning that has this chassis architecture missing from the new platform.

They will also lose out bigtime with company car drivers.

That's the odd thing, a BEV Defender was in the published plan last year, then it went away without a word, next they came out and said BEV was the wrong tech for the Defender and the latest was the super lux variant will now get it?

Totally agree.
But I suppose most new buyers are only going to keep for 3 years, so they will have moved on.

Today's announcement will hopefully be a hurry-up for manufacturers still dragging their feet, providing other markets adopt similar legislation.
Of the old-school manufacturers, VW seem best positioned now (because diesel-gate).

Sorry if this question has been already answered elsewhere. They claim that new Defender is going to score 5 star on NCAP rating?

Since I’m leaning heavily towards buying a Defender as an only vehicle - meaning as daily commute, business trips, family trips, offroad trips etc. - this is actually an important issue for me, together with an increased comfort on highway journeys...

What do you think and when they expect to see the results?

..i would highly recommend to wait until vehicle drops in to hand of people who will be able to provide solid, independent review of vehicle, including proper offroading tests, contrary to JLR whistles and bells rigged reviews and offroad tests which could be done with 30+old vehicle without issues..

I’m keen to see the NCAP results too fairly sure it will score well for its class. I don’t think it’s a case of waiting for hands on reviews we just have to wait for NCAP to publish.

Safety was the main reason I didn’t go with a full twisted build last year. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE
RR MY23 HSE PHEV
D5 MY19 HSE - Now Sold
D4 MY16 HSE Luxury - Now Sold
D4 MY12 HSE - Gone
D3 MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

I was wondering this myself and tried to do a bit of digging. It seems the US NCAP (as opposed to Euro NCAP) lists 106 Land Rover vehicles (a combination of model and year) of which only 3 have been tested:

Discovery II 2002
Discovery II 2003
Discovery II 2004

and even then testing was only partial, i. e., only on 3 of the categories. They all scored 4 stars for 2 of the tests, and 2 stars for the third test.

Not all vehicles are tested, and only a few makes and models are selected from each years model list. I can see a list for MY2020 but not one for MY2021 yet:

https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings/2020-vehicle...gs-testing

Euro NCAP has 10 listings for LR going back to 2002:

https://www.euroncap.com/en/ratings-reward...ment=false

Brexit may have a part to play in making this system meaningless in the UK, if a Euro spec model differs from a UK variant. The UK currently has 3 of the 12 members, so who knows what changes may follow.

Finally, I saw new defender (First Edition 110 + expedition pack) at our dealer, overall i like it and really thinking about buying one.

Few points that stuck in my head.
Boot looks too small (for our use), but i don’t have a chance to see "normal" boot, because presented car has PHEV engine and that means on the left side box around 15cm wide and boot floor higher about 4-5cm, not mentioning there is no space under floor. On pictures with normal engine, boot and space under floor looks goods, hope to see it in flesh soon.

You cant slide 2nd row if you have 5seat configuration, this option you have only in 5+2seat config (same as RRS) - shame

Khaki interior looks better in flesh then on pictures, but this is my subjective opinion.

Dashboard is great, really like it and it will be easy to use.

2nd row is comfier than in Disco5

Last think that I discuss with dealer was release date of 130, he said he has same question on training days. He got this answer: 130 is not officially confirmed and if it comes it can be available only in US or China, not in EU states. I don’t really trust this statement but you never know…

If the made a BEV version I would probably get one. If PHEV only unlikely - but I might get one. But I am now on my second BEV (an iPace after a bmw i3) and am not going back to diesel or petrol only. In the current market place Land Rover are toast if they continue only to offer the defender with what they have on the configurator. I am amazed that they think it’s acceptable to launch the defender, their newest model, with such high co2 figures. Madness
