This and Tesla make the current JLR range look so outdated and last century. Residuals will start to suffer massive hits

Rivian just received another $1.3 billion investment. They will be a serious player over the next few years.
https://www.motor1.com/news/389500/rivian-...nvestment/ RT1 specs are insane: https://rivian.com/r1t/ SUV version looks nice also: https://rivian.com/r1s/ Top of the range one is cheaper than Defender, has 400+ mile range, 3 ft wading depth, 750bhp, 0-60 in 3 seconds, and can do this: I'm in! Agree - I would have been excited by the new Defender if it was built on a proper BEV platform, with similar futuristic attributes to the RT1, and would totally overlook the questionable styling too! I guess LR just couldn't afford the time and money to do this? |

Was talking to a salesman in the local JLR dealer the other day while waiting for some parts to come through from the doors at the back of the customer reception (whatever happened to being able to speak to someone who knew what you were talking about & cou,d show you on a screen so you could be sure it was the right bit). He said that there were plans for PHEV across the range by the end of 2020, whoop-de-doo!
Anyone know if/when these Rivians will be coming to the UK? |

UK plans
The R1S is on display at the Los Angeles motor show this week. It will go into production in the US in early 2021 at a factory formerly owned by Mitsubishi. US sales are the first goal for Rivian, but it plans for a European launch within 12 months, including in the UK in right-hand drive. 1951 80" S1 2.0 1995 110 300TDI 1995 90 300TDI |

There is a smaller R2 scheduled for 2022 and they are also building an SUV for Ford.

I am yet to be convinced on the benefits of PHEV, other than as a means to minimise company car tax, to allow some manufacturers to tick the eco box and to avoid congestion charge zones. They might achieve the stated mpg figures if used solely on very short journeys between charges, but in reality how often is this the case. Having both an engine and the electrics is just adding to the complexity and maintenance. The pace of development on all electric vehicles will surely make PHEV obsolete in the not too distant future. |

A PHEV is a tax dodge. If it had 150miles range and also a petrol power plant they might be more useful and uptake better. As it is, more of these on the roads does nothing for our emissions. All drivers of Outlander PHEV’s I have met never charge it and wonder why they don’t get the advertised range of 150mpg but more like that of a 2.0 SUV of 28mpg..... of wait it is a 2.0 SUV 1951 80" S1 2.0

Last year one of the lease companies said that of the Outlanders being returned at the end of the lease the vast majority of the power cables were still in their original bags in the boot unused. As a company car driver the system is geared up for claiming petrol / diesel, and as it is easier to provide receipts then why would you bother plugging it in. |

"Just before temporarily shutting down our facilities to help slow the spread of COVID-19, we made this internal video progress report so our team across all locations could see how far the plant has come. We can’t wait to get back in there."
Nice. |

I do hope not.
Although it is damm ugly, I actually like it, epsecially the pick up. I guess as with all these, retail costs will be the stumbling block for most of us. |

Tesla seem to have a lot of information in their claim:
https://www.scribd.com/document/470141365/Tesla-sues-Rivian Rivian have quite a degree of funding behind them, if most of what Tesla claim is true, then some of these organisations should defund. Whether that will happen is debatable. |
